What could be causing these hoods to rust???
I've noticed on several older 911's, the same spot of rust on the hood. Anyone have an idea why?

Two things come to mind.
1. If the cars were ever repainted it's likely that the prep wasn't very good and the paint has shrunk and pulled from the edge. This allows moister to gather in the "bubble" and rust begins. 2. If the paint is getting thin in these areas it could expose the metal to the elements and rust begins again. I'm sure there are other possabilities but these come to mind first.

Possibly the "flex point" when pulling the lid down from the front?
A little kink forms there and the paint cracks.

Thanx for the replies guys. I had kind of thought it might be a "kink" issue myself. And they both are quite old, I know the red hood hadn't been repainted and the paint getting thin probably didn't help. Thanx, Duke
