shift link adjust IMHO
I read the PP tech forum before I installed the Welmeister Short shifter in my 74 911. This is my third one and the other two served me well. This car had some shifting anomalies so I replaced all the bushings as well as the shifter. I did not replace the coupler. My personal experience differs with the tech aritcles in one way. I found the technigue of turning the coupler clockwise and the shifter just touching the right side of the shift tower with the stick in the vertical position a very good starting point, however going into third I still clashed. WHat I did was use the above described "factory procedure" as a baseline. Then I moved the coupler counter clock wise until it was better or returned it if it got worse. Then I moved the shift rod by moving the shifter either forward or backward, JUST A TINY BIT, like maybe one MM. I did this while driving and carrying a couple of 13 mm wrenches and just pulling over and tweaking the coupler every 1/4 mile or so. Basically I just dialed it in slowly and found the correct positiion. I think that the reason this works is cause a car wiht 200k miles on it, there is slop on shift fork and other moving parts and this takes procedure takes it into account.
Hope someone benefits from my trial and error. Perhaps the moderator wants to post this wiht the other articles.

That's how I did mine as well. People must have thought I was weird pulling over every few miles and climbing into the backseat. Oh well, it worked.

I guess we're all weird. Is there another way to fine tune your shifter? I don't think so. I wouldn't put the cover plate back on until I was sure I had it. One of my wrenches ended up under the passenger seat during the test drive.... I wonder how that happened?

I hope it helped some folks cause in the tech article the guys are pretty adamant that tinkering did not work. I found that this was the only thing to get it to work.
