Hand throttle not working, where to start

My hand throttle on my 75 has done broke. I went to start up the car and the gas gage read empty, light on...and low and behold the car would not start, crank yes... I thought to myself what the chances that I would run out of gas in my own garage? there must be more to this so I got the ole gas can out and added some liquid gold. that's when I noticed that the gas pedal was not going down when I pulled the hand handle up.

Where should I look first to fix this problem?

pull the tunnel carpet and look in the slot to the left of the hand throttle. I suspect that your drag link is broken. this is a plastic piece that attaches to the hand throttle handle and grabs the stop on the trottle linkage rod. They commonly break.

You can hold a light pressure on the gas and do the same thing as the hand throttle. Yeah the drag link is probably the problem. Mine turned to powder. While you are down there you can replace the bushings around the throttle rod too.

Does the driver seat have to come out to replace the drag link?

Drivers seat does not have to come out. Just be patient.

Do a search on "Jim Sims" he has links to a couple of good threads.

All in all I did it in an hour including a 10 min conversation w/ a neighbor

AFAIC, the seats ought to have wing nuts on them or something. I'm 6' and working on anything in the cabin is tough with seats in place. Of course, I favor taking out the pass side for lots of room. But, no, you don't have to remove either seat to adjust just about anything in the tunnel or pedal cluster.

Seats come out pretty easy. 4 bolts if I remember correctly. You find the back two in the track by sliding the seat full forward and you find the front to by sliding the seat all the way back.

There are actually 8 per side. It's till time consuming. I'd like to modify my next 911's pass seat to slide forward and out of the track like a VW.

I don't know about anyone else, but I found the "hand throttle repair" extremely difficult and frustrating. I got the throttle to work, but then the emergency brake wouldn't work. I just couldn't seem to get all the lever, springs and whatnot sorted out and working. In short, I gave up and nothing (throttle, emergency brakes and heater controls) work now. I'd gladly pay someone to fix that mess but there aren't any "Porsche wrenches" near me...
