Replace 2.2 with 2.4
I bought a good used 2.4 with MFI so use as a core for a RS buildup, but I won't be getting to that until this winter. In the meantime the 2.2 in my car is smoking worse and worse so I'm thinking that I will pull it out and replace the MFI on the 2.4 with the Webers from the 2.2 and use it until I am ready to start my rebuild. Anything I need to know (other than to plug the MFI ports) to do this?

changes to carb venturi and jets. You can use the FI holes to get vacume for your brakes, if your car has assisted brakes.

Why not use the MFI?

Actually I want to use the webers as this is going into a 68 and I have not collected all the electrical stuff I need to put a MFI engine into it. Also that means I can send the MFI pump/throttle bodies out to be rebuilt to RS spec's and keep driving the car.

Let's see:
* Plug the MFI holes - PMO has a nice little kit for this * Switch the fuel pump * You will probably lose hp using the webers. I performed this conversion a while back on a 68 as a matter of fact, I never could get the carbs just right but that was probably due to lack of tuning experience on my part. But it ran ok for the most part. * Depending on the trans you have (901 vs 915), you may need to use the flywheel from the 2.2. Good time to replace the seals if that is the case. I think that is about it. You should be able to find both wiring diagrams here somewhere. Hope this helps. -Alan _________________ 206aa 1979 911 SC Coupe _________________ |

The car probably doesn't have the 2nd port of the gas tank for the MFI return fuel line. This was the reason I decided to punt on putting MFI in my 68. In retrospect, I wish I would have run the fuel line and setup the MFI. |

Second Fuel line will have to be added before I can put the MFI in, as for the Fuel pump, what I have in the car right now is a 2.2 Carbed motor, so I have a fuel pump that works fine with carbs.
I'm still not convinced I will be doing MFI for the new motor, but once I have costs for a MFI rebuild vs EFI I'll make a decision.
