When I first got my car, the driver's side window no longer worked. It turns out that the power window regulator had broken. The original regulator was held on by four screws, and the regulator had broken off of these screws. The new regulator was mounted with six screws, and two screw holes had to be drilled into the door panel.
My mechanic could only find the dimensions for these screw holes in the Haynes manual. He couldn't even find this information in the shop manuals. So I guess the Haynes manual has some use after all. Doug

I bought the Haynes manual right after buying my car in 1991. Yes, it is a document that could have been put together better but it has helped me on many occasions and has many a grease stain as proof. Eventually, I acquired the shop mauals on microfish and would you believe it they were full of stuff that was for all the earlier cars. Porsche decided to just add to the old manuals as necessary. Now the Haynes manual has followed that same philosophy with the supplemental portion in the back of the manual. It is what it is another tool for our use.

Oh Ya Ya Yust a Yoke!!
For the record Zeke completely rebuilt at least one 911 - as far as I can tell he smelted his own metal and welded it all in. It was a VERY comprehensive "body repair." That and maybe some other things resulted in burnout - he was taling about going away on another bbs and I suggested he just kill off his # of posts by re-joining under another name like I did. He then became milt. He hasn't done much with my Zilt suggestion a few weeks ago tho...

You interrupted his rant. We need a way to have all the rants automatically go over to the black hole where all the tires & oil threads go...

The Haynes manual makes a great coaster you can put several drinks on it. I did use the wiring diagram because it was more accurate with the wire colors than my Bentley manual when I wired up my "city lights" mod.

Dash lighting fuse installation
Haynes also has H1 aiming diagram in it, and... uh... ah... well, some almost legible pictures, and ... unh... So it has at least two valuable things -- each one costs only $5 if you buy the Haynes on eBay for $10.

Wayne in your publications you specify that you use the torque tube end caps as your jack points on the rear... are you still backing this approach??

First off I really didnt know that milt was formerly zeke. I am not on here enough to have known that.
Also, I was not ranting, per say. I was trying to he humorous. Also part 2, I was ranting somewhat but the toiliet paper comment was there to refer to the total toilet paper-like feel and toilet paper grade of the pages. Good Lord! Didnt I only pay about $20 for Waynes book? I can't remember exactly but I know it wasn't over $25 and look at the high quality of that thing. That is mainly what pissed me off. I had Wayne's book in one hand and that feather light piece of cheap ass Haynes crap in the other and they both cost me the same amount. Ok Haynes fans, zeke included, back that one up. How does that happen? Also, Wayne's book is where I learned to jack my car at the center of the engine. I put my jack stands on the torsion tube ends and move them up click by click as I jack at the engine. I did hear 2 worrisome pops last time I jacked at the engine. D'oH! beat by the advice from a Haynes manual..............

I doubt you will be able to find a real 'Haynes fan' on this bbs. It used to be all there was (unless you could find an Autobook manual) except for the Clymer manual. The Porsche Haynes manual is likely the worst one Haynes ever did... That said it is of some (minimal) value - I wouldn't throw mine away.
The light wt. makes it easier to backpack deep into the desert after your Rothman's Rally 959 breaks down...

kwm,
You need to expand your library. There isn’t one single source that covers everything Porsche. Even the 3-volume Ludvigsen doesn’t get there. Nor does a 20+ volume collection of Factory manuals. What happened to the list above? Your collection should include: The complete Factory Workshop Manuals. The Bentley manuals. Haynes manual (you have). The Factory “Spec Books.” Factory “Technical Service Information” Technik books. Owner’s Manuals. Collections of Christophorus, Pano, Up-Fix’n, Excellence, PML, 356 Regestery and more. The PET CD parts catalog. Even Clymers and more. It is unrealistic and inappropriate to expect a single manual to cover all situations. I have most of the above and it is still insufficient. This is where the Pelican archive comes in. The search function is wonderful. When you have additional information to offer or have exhausted the on-line research capacity, post a question with background for others to use. The Porsche “Information Superhighway” is a two-way street. I agree with critical review. I agree with the original post that Haynes isn’t perfect. I totally disagree that it is “garbage.” The poster should find the flaws in the Haynes publication and correct or clarify them. As should we all. Best, Grady Guys, sorry I haven’t been enjoying the fun. Last weekend’s events got me down. My brain writes the checks and my bod won’t cash them. G.

Torque tube end caps for jack stands is what I meant...I havent jacked the car using the motor..rather a jack plate insert in the side jack point.
So no problem with jacking the car via the motor??? with appro care??

The book is NOT garbage, it's a good complement.
It has wire schematics and it has an exploaded view of the chain tensioners! That is two things I havent found anywhere else, exept factory manuals.

We are up to 3 items:
1. wiring schematics 2. exploaded view of the chain tensioners 3. diagram of H1 headlights what else is in the Haynes that is not otherwise covered?
