Radio antenna dilemma...need help

So I removed my old power antenna and had it filled and painted. I then installed a hidden under dash antenna w/ a 12V supply from Kragen and it sucks. Does anyone know of a good hidden or stealth antenna?

Replace your windshield with an antenna built in type. Put one in my '85 last year for about $350.

I doubt the under hood ones will work well at all - they are surrounded by steel - a virtual Faraday cage that excludes RF signals.

The under dash ones should be a bit better - you could try a quality brand (Kragen sho' ain't...).

Next, are the ones that mount on the glass - 2 types:
- ones with long wires
- ones with short little stubs on it (this was being promoted by a seller here on a thread a couple weeks ago - I haven't tried it).
Both of these will have a rectangular block that sits above the mirror.

A nicer install would be what Doug mentioned. You'll need a small hole in the body lip near the windshield that is covered by the seal and some $$....

Slantnose - interesting....

Post how well it works. Lots of us are looking for ways to get decent reception.

Here's another URL...
http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.aspx/partfamilyid/1546/brand/AutoLoc/brandid/13

My plan is to go by the car stereo shops in town and see what they stock. My hope is to avoid the $350 windshield replacement.

I used to play pool in SFO witht eh (former) head of Sirius, but...
Sat Radio costs a LOT of $$ and is worthless in canyons or in 'artificial' canyons created by even 3 story buildings. I had a 90 day XM freebie on my Honda Pilot and didn't renew....

We have great radio in our little town here. I'd only use Sat radio when out in the boonies... but then I'd be in canyons a lot of the time and not be able to get radio, so...

I had seen something elsewhere that turned your rear defroster into an antenna.

Well, I just got my antenna from Tune Trapper and it arrived really fast. I installed it an hour ago and it rocks. I just stuck it under the passenger seat on the floor for now and ran the wire under the floor mat. Its a kick a$$ antenna and I would recommend it.

Slant,
Have you considered mounting the antenna to the backside of the passenger toe board? I suspect there's enough room, and it would be an easy place to mount it.

Anzures -- did that work for you? What about distance reception?

Also, I'm curious as to how people are running the leads when they put the antenna above the mirror...

Do you have a brand name or still have the eBay link or number? Looks like a great solution!

Satellite antenna UNDER the window??

I noticed a comment about mounting the antenna on the parcel shelf. Does this work? I have always gone through the window seals but would love to avoid this if possible.

Thanks
Sam

I've got mine mounted on the dash just to the right of the defroster vent. Works great and hardly noticable. Last three car sat antenna's were dash mounted and no probs.
