If It Runs As Good As It Looks

Almost ready to reinstall, so took some pics and was cajoled into posting.

In the immortal words of the Yardbirds:
Over, Under, Sideways, Down - Backwards, Forwards - Square Around:

So, awaiting some fuel fittings to mate up this 3.0 to 3.2 p&c's, 964 cam, SSI's, Triad muffller, carrera manifold EFI thingee and then see how it runs.

Thanks!
Jim

Very nice work. That first shot - it's got kind of a Ronald McDonald thing going on, it must be all the yellow with those red-striped hoses...
What are the engine specs?

Where did you get that orange heater hoses? I want to replace my crufty old ones with that orange stuff but don't know where to get it. Thanks!

HA~! McDonald's indeed~! I can only hope it has the 'Attack' part of the Mac... Nope, nothing subtle about my color choices - same as my corporate, logo and business card colors. Probably best to think of those as USMC colors, but I'll live with the MaccyD reference!

Compression is supposed to be a 'true' 10.5:1
With the 964 cams and straigt in EFI and SSI to low resistance Triad mufflers it ought to rev freely for a 3.2.

And, it will need it - after all - as Randy Webb would say: This 80SC is a bloated, luxo, pig of a car. Yea, it's all that...

Course it was 107 degrees here in North Texas yesterday - so that new Griffith's A/C system will be more than nice; and I plan on driving it up north where it get's very cold - so the blown SSI's will be useful. And, I plan on giving it to my college freshman daughter and she's kinda used to the luxo life - so the very fine sound insulation, electric windows, and completely redone interior will be appreciated. To say nothing of the sound system: JVC top of the line with cross over networked Quartz and Polk that has her drooling...

There's more - of course, like the suspension upgrades and transmission rebuild. But is IS a heavy car.

Thanks for the interest,
Jim

I am not crazy about the colors but the level of detail and care is outstanding. It is more automotive art than engine. Great job.

No offense, my engine kind of looks like Darth Vader. A very dirty Darth Vader. If you ever get the chance, you gotta go to Mickey D's when the clown is there, get a pic of him checking your oil and post it on Pelican. Oh, the jocularity!

The orange tubing is known as "SCAT" tubing, and can be purchased at most aircraft supply shops. Online you can get it at www.aircraftspruce.com and www.chiefaircraft.com.

Love the shot of the bottom of the engine, a work of art.

Hi again Scott - went out to aircraftspruce, a bit difficult to navigate -- am looking to order some hoses this weekend - what is typical engine compartment hose diameter (OD) and best links on the site?

Thanks...

A quick updat e-- Looks like most is 2.5in ID -- and I'll probably need about 6 feet to do all my heatexchanger hoses (long on right, and short on left)

Giantman - she's a one of a kind.
Did yeoman's duty on the tear down to the raw chassis on this car - and some of the build. Likes mechanicals and loves to drive. Signing her up for some DE and road coarses. She'll let me trade off with her 2.0 GTI turbo...at least occasionally. She's an Engineering major freshman at U.T. and fairly bad to the bone. I can't help but share a pic of my daughter - given a reason:

Crap man, that is a detailed engine. Nothing cooler than full electronic twinplug. Nice. Does your doughter understand the Kickass setup? This is no small jobbie.

Wow, lucky girl. I had an '86 GTI in college. Had 285k on ti when I got it. (and that was just six years ago). Never thought I'd ever drive a 911, much less a twin-plug monster!

Make sure she knows not to "lift" in the turns.
