7 and 8 Fuchs on narrow body 72
Hello all.
Can anyone tell me how much flaring is needed to do this? Has it been done with no flaring? I imagine its easier with skinng tyres..what sizes have guys used? Thanks David |

The front is fine as is, the back wants SC/Carrera flares

Some early cars won't accept 7's on the rear without slightly 'pulling' the rear arches (or rolling the lips).
The whole point of fitting wider wheels is to be able to fit wider tyres too - 6's on the front with 7's on the rear (with or without rolling the arches as necessary) is about the maximum you can go for on a narrow-bodied lwb car.

Thanks, Guys.
Sorta what I thought. BTW, Andy, in racing its been shown that slip angles are substantially reduced by over-width rims, relative to tyres.. The tyre makers do try to discourage this of course! But it definitely works.. Kind regards David |

I tried 8's on my stock '74 and experienced rubbing when the kids were sitting in the backseat. If it was just me and the wife in the car, no rubbing at all. I switched to 6's on the front and 7's on the rear and never any rubbing...

I have 6's and 7's 16" with no rubbing- however the PO trid to have 225 tires on the rear and blistered the new $5K paintjob! then he tried to roll the lip and crack the paint!!!!.
WHY dont these idiots try the wheels/tires before the paint job ![]() He finally resolved to the current setup with 6's and 7's and 205 tires. I personally think the 15" 7" wheels with 205 tires is the best 'look' setup around for narrow body cars! Rgds Ben

funny you should ask. scroll down to the head-on shot of the green car. it has 8's w/ 225/45's (rolled fenders). for street i run 215/55 on 8's and it fits very well.
suspension suggestions? |

First I wouldn't consider the rear tires on the green car to fit at all
second there are some people that have put 944 8s on the rear of their narrow cars, that does work w/ some caveats about ride height, tires and suspension. Th 911 8s w/ +10.6ET need SC/Carrera flares.

i agree. it's not a "live in harmony" kind of fit when it comes to squared off 225-wide hoosiers. but it is a perfectly good fit with 215-sized street tires.

Here are the 205 tires on 16's which just fit.

You need to flare the rear of a '74 to fit 8s. I've BTDT.
