How to? Flex brake line connection

Hi all,

I´m installing these new flex brake lines and got lost on how the u-shaped bracket on the front strut should be positioned. I now have it installed like in the picture, but this leaves quite a bit of thread exposed on the hard brakeline (to the caliper) and it looks like it´s not a real firm fit? I´ve checked with the original old flex lines, but seem to run into the same problem. Am I doing somwthing wrong here?

I just did my fronts last weekend & mine was the same (1987). It came off that way & went on the same. Yes, some threads are exposed. Maybe it's a slightly tapered fitting?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Gunter: it's 1972 2.4S, but I guess many more models have this construction.

I'm a bit concerned if this is really how it's supposed to be, as I would assume that this connection should be a firm one. I'm only getting it snug when I 'overbend' the u shaped bracket.

I'll check out the connection on the 911 of a friend of mine, but I would appreciate any more insights from more people 'in the know'.

Hi Chris, thanks. This, however, isn't the mounting position I'm referring to. I'm referring to the bracket on the strut (the area that is just not shown in your pictures

It's not the threads that seal the fluid in, it's the bubble flare on the end. The threads just help tighten it down. There's nothing wrong with your install. Snug it down and check it for leaks whith someone pressing hard on the pedal

Dennis,

Your diagram is accurate ... the strut end of the junction is depicted on p. 400-2 of the Bentley 3.2 Carrera manual using an incorrect 1969 graphic of a 911E hydropneumatic front suspension! Also, see closeup on p. 401-13.
