Rear End Noise

Well it looks like my run of reliable Porsche motoring could be coming to an expensive end.

I noticed a whine has developed in the rear end, noticeable at speeds in excess of 30mph, and becoming more pronounced the greater the speed ('69T). Doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the engine as it remains when I allow the car to coast in neutral. I would certainly appreciate any help in troubleshooting this.

As an aside, did the earlier cars come with LSD, and if so which models?

Regards,
