Does anybody still have an 85 MPH Speedometer?

In 1981 (not sure which other years) the US cars came with an 85 MPH speedo. I changed mine to a 150 MPH speedo at about 19k miles. Anyone else have one?

I am not looking for one. I still have mine. I was just curious because I don't think it's come up before.

Got one in my 82` 965 powered SC. Hits the needle stopper daily. Its kinda cool how fast it sweeps across while ringing out 1st 2nd 3rd at full boost. Im currently looking for a 150mph more unit. Kurt Williams

Why did they have an 85 mph speedo? The cars were obviously faster. Anybody know the reason? Possibly 912 leftovers?

What a silly gadget. Whats the bloody point. Did you have to connect it to the fuel supply also - automatically cutting out passing 55 mph. And why 85 mph anyway ? The limit being 55 mph, did the government figure they had to cut sport cars owners a little slack ? Only in America..

The reason was government mandated. It applied to all cars that year (or two). For those of you who got your car new or unlowered, it was also about as high as a Paris-Dakar 959, because of government-mandated bumper heights. Porsche felt it was easier to change the ride height than it was to redesign the bumpers for the US.
