Porsche SC exhaust? best choice?

Hi, I was looking at exhaust's for my 1982 Porsche 911, preferably a dual. I also heard that the 1974 and older exhaust on my SC will do better on the horsepower. I just dont know about the sizing. I want a nice clean sound and a bit more horsepower. With not too high of a price. Any suggestion? Thanks -Arvin

do a search on SSIs......they aren't exactly smog legal (visual) but they do the job and you will pass if the smog weenie doesn't speciallize in foreign cars.

headers - SSIs if smog isn't a concern
ROW premuffler if it isn't sniffed at smog time(you may pass w/o a cat but it's a risk)
oem 3.2 w/ ROW premuffler might work a tad better too.

mufflers Monty, Dansk, Flowmaster, Dyno mAx

bill one of these days I am just going send you one in hopes of converting you

Sorry for the high jack.

To answer the question no smog I would go with ssis and then a nice single outlet if you are going to street the car and want to miss out on the law giving you a hard time(with all manufactureres) The single outs also make any company in the car happy as well

ssi's and a single out made for a whole new power band on my 78 sc. i will have to swap back and forth every two years for somg testing, but i believe its worth it. the sound is nearly worth the price of admission. crisp, not just loud like many of the daul outs w/o ssi's i have heard.

get some early Heat Exchangers or SSI's your choice. Get a Dual in Single out Dansk.

I think that is a wonderful place to start, and if you want even more grunt you can sell the Dansk and get a dual in dual out.

lots of people here go straight to Dual out so im sure you could also swap mufflers with someone wanting to tone thiers back down.

SSIs and M&K 2 in / 2 out with a block off plate for one side. More power and torque for the mid-range and higher. Less weight, outstanding quality and the choice to "open it up" when you desire a touch more noise and power.

I 3rd the SSI's and M&K!!!!!!!!! Excellent quality and performance and lighter than OEM. These will outlast your grand children.

I'll be selling my Fabspeed pre-muffler (cat bypass) and Dansk 1-in-1-out sport muffler when I go to SSIs and 2-in-2-out (dunno which muffler brand I'll get yet). They've only been on the car about 6 months.

So... while I'm at it, can someone tell me where to get M&K ?

You can get one right here at PP. My 78SC changed into a whole lot more fun after going with the 1 in 1 out M&K from the stock muff.

This brings up a point. Ben, I have your dual in single out muffler on my Carrera and LOVE it. Sometimes though I like to be BAD, especially at the track and wish I had a DUAL in/out. Have you thought about designing a muffler that you can cap off one outlet for street and open it up for Track days? something that doesn't look cheesey or rigged?

brian p Ben already has that covered. I am running his 2 in 2 out muffler with one of his "caps". The cap fits inside the tailpipe I installed mine on the passenger side.It is held in place with one bolt and the system is much quieter with it installed. When at the track or when you want to piss off the neighbors you drop one bolt, slide out the cap and you"re good to go.

I'll second the ssi's dual in one out dansk. Just had this setup fitted to mine & the tone's perfect. Agressive when you're on it but not tiring on a freeway trip.

I've pretty much decided on 2-in-1-out but the question would be between Dansk and M&K. M&K I presume would be lighter, but of M&Ks someone please give me a reason to buy fully polished vs just polished tip, the price difference could help offset the cost of the oil lines when I get the SSIs.

Why pay extra for polishing an item you don't see unless your laying on the ground? Save the money for usefull maint./upgrade items. Not only is the M&K lighter but it's made of 321 SS where all others use inferior 304...................it's a no brainer in my opinion.

That's exactly what I thought. So it's polished-tip-only M&K for me, 2-in-1-out. Now, is the 2-out version just more noise or can someone quantify for me a performance reason to get 2-out ?
