Origin of "No Substitute"
What's the origin for the slogan: "Porsche. There is no substitute."
I'm too young to recall this from before Tom Cruise's line in Risky Business. And a search didn't turn up an answer, either.

It actually is a factory registered trademarked slogan, although I can't recall when it was first used.

I recall it was used about 35 years ago. I'd have to do a little digging to figure out if it was used prior to that.

I believe it began with a series of magazine ads for the redsigned 1974 models ... the ads featured various combinations of 914s and 911s grouped with 914-6GT, 908, and 917 race cars, both endurance and Can-Am. Some shots were very low angles, others were taken from a cherry-picker or high grandstand. One notable shot was a low-angle, frontal shot of a 917/10, 914, and 911 ... it must have been taken very early in the day as the lighting cast was distinctly bluish, and wide-angle lens distortion was visible.

Anyone got any copies of those early ads? Just curious...
