Unhappy My first Bad Experience

Well first of all I would like to say this week has very interesting and the funs just begun. I would like to thank charleskieffner for helping out as much as he could, would also like to thank C U L8R & Lee H for the phone convo and phone number to a tow truck company and the address to Don Jackson

Been having starter problems, past week or so...Talked to Charleskieffner who happened to have an oem battery, said he'd give to me (good guy) took him up on the offer and went to get it...was going to meet C U L8ER & Lee H to trouble shoot the emissions and starter problems, damn never got that far , I was on the freeway doing 50 or 60 in 5th gear and I hear a thud and the engine shuts off…what races through my mind? Damn it's a head stud? Cylinder? Rod?

Tried to crank the engine and wouldnt start up...Charleskieffner came by and checked the engine oil said it was norm...we checked for oil spillage and the forth..none....fan belt was there and ok...he thinks its electrical ...i am hoping it is and not the engine .....so the cars getting towed to Don Jackson...I hope that place is safe to leave the car their till Monday....

We got a wave from a green sunroof 911 driving on the 101

Well so far its been fun, even though the car was left on the side of the freeway it still looked nice

I put this thread in the parts section seems I have been eyeing too many parts...

Update

I had a bad experience with the 1st tow company...my Turbo wing had stess cracks on the grill? These were not there before...the second tow guy was it prob happened from the way he loaded it, I wasn't there when the 1st tow guy loaded it , but was there when he dropped it off... the guy was an idiot...he scraped my Fuchs too....

The Don Jackson location was not the best area to leave a car for 2 days ....I could not leave the car there till Tuesday, I found out they are not open Mon when I read the hours of operation...
So I had the car towed to my GF house in Glendale.

I really hope its just electrical....

Frank,

A 'thud' is a bit thin as far as leads go ... looking for electrical problems!

Reminds me of a funny NASCAR story back in the height of factory 'aero wars' in '68 - '69 ...

The factory teams were a bit secretive in letting the 'enemy' camps know when weaknesses caused DNFs. So ... once during a Daytona 500 one of the Holman-Moody Ford cars died suddenly while leading, and the official cause given to NASCAR was 'electrical system failure.' Turns out that the 427 threw a rod through the side of the block ... and sheared the battery cable going to the starter! Also perforated the oil pan, but being that it was a 22 qt. dry-sump system ... little oil was lost. Yep, that rod flying through the side of the block to parts unknown caused a big electrical problem, allright!

hey frank all things considered you broke down in a fairly scenic place overlooking the mcdowell mtns and in the flight path of scottsdale airport.

when i had my "rite of passage" up in star valley, it wasnt anything as delightful as yours.

first car dies in middle of long uphill outside of star valley. no power, coast to stop half in the middle of hwy 260. not exactly what you call a slow road w/no traffic. next we (g/friend in heels) push the damn car uphill to flat spot off of hwy. next car starts, turn 180 towards payson. craps out in front of circle k in star valley. sit there for hours and rename it "CRACK VALLEY" due to apt complex crack urchins roaming around making dope deals in parking lot of circle k. then tow truck arrives and he cant get car on because car so low. SCRATCHES MY BRAND NEW RUF SPOILER!

at this point due to 110 degree temps, my car screwed up, im about to blow ALL gaskets sideways, i decide to check gas cap for vapor lock...........nothing, i get in and it starts. off to payson we go. g/friend and i look at each other and make the corporate decision "TO GO FOR IT" all the way back to phx. thru 118 degree dezert. craps out a little on slate creek uphill and i crap myself. cleared itself out and we finally ended up making home.

final problem...........DME RELAY and we then replaced CHT for good measure. thought we had it licked. OOOOHHHH NO........problem continued.............ARRRRGGGHHHHH! final final problem..........MAS replaced due to high amount of crud built up from P.O.

PROBLEM SOLVED. like i said its only money and time! and time is all weez got on this planet. its the money thing that gets old. another experience i just as soon forget, but makes for a great story to anyone that looks at my car and asks, what kind of maintenance is involved on these cars!

good luck and tell me what finally shows up as problem. chuck

i still think its electrical due to volt/ohm meter not showing full charge on your battery and the fact that all your gauges were "FLUTTERING" just before declaring inflight emergency!

ok after the thud noise there was no smoke or strange engine noise after this ...my o2 sensor and g senor light go off...i pull over quickly and turned the car off...tried to crank it no go...again no smoke

I thought it sounded funny when I was cranking the engine over, but Charleskieffner said it sounded ok when I let him hear it...

His comment was 3.6 time...

That stinks! Hate to hear it happened. Wonder if you ran over a rock or something and that coincided with an electrical failure? I'm always hearing a clunk, bump, whump or some noise when I'm driving around.

BTW, I think your car would have been fine at Don Jackson's. I agree the area may look a little worrysome, but they've been there for many, many years.

Best of luck and hope to see you soon!

Don Jackson's is not in the best part of town (it was nice a long time ago) but they keep all the cars locked up behind a barbed wire fence, mean dog too, I think. They'll figure it out.

Don't know what happened to my post when this was in the parts for sale forum; it disappeared.

Anyway, good luck Fenderguy, I hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

Kurt & Don

It would have been fine if it was behind the fence but the car didnt get dropped off until after 6pm, they were closed by then...and the tow truck driver freaked me out by saying I wouldnt leave such a nice car there untill Monday, well poking my head around I read that they are closed Mon. I was like no way 2 days for some idiot to slash my cab top and take the stereo out? Rather leave it were I can see it
