Another rebuild or replace thread

Just spoke with my mechanic after having dropped my 3.0L off to figure out why the #5 cylinder was dead. Turns out 35% leak on #5 and #6 and damaged cam lobes. The motor has 120K on the clock and it needs some serious work.

I can rebuild it here at home, with the help of my mechanic, however the car is not a perfect specimin to begin with. The interior is good, fresh seats, nice carpet and door panels, paint is a 5 out of 10 respray job in silver. No dings or dents or the such.

So should I rebuild the top end? Or replace with a used 3.0L? Or 3.2 for that matter.... My motor is EFI, with upgraded tensioners, so I have parts I can transfer.

What to do?

DIY. Did he say why it leaked. Head studs? Broken rings? Bent valves?

You gonna sell the tbitz if you get a 3.2?

It's leaking past the first ring, he says the cylinders are probably out of round, or the rings are all ligned up. The digital phots he took on his scope show major cam damage on five and six, besides #5 and #6 the rest are all around 14% leak. The motor is tired I suppose.

And no, I'll never sell my TBITZ, thet system is just to good to get rid of. Even if I went 3.2 I would keep it.

I wouldn't put a used 3.2 in it. I'd rebuild the 3 liter, to 3.2 specs if I had to replace the jugs......or I'd drop in a 3.6.

My mechanic recomends the same exact thing, he said the 3.2 jugs would cost the same. Thanks for the advice!
