Question odometer quit working now what?

Well the other day I reset the odometer on my 83SC in the driveway before heading out and it stopped working. I did the usual press the button a few times but she's deceased. The speedometer still works. So any ideas what broke? Is this a DIY fix or just box it up and send to one of the gauge repair places? Aprox. how much to get this fixed in either scenario?

Welcome to the club. The easiset way to get it fixed is to send it out to Hollywood Speedo or another repair shop. While it CAN de done at home, it's easy to mess up the needle and then you are worse off. My .02, of course. I tried doing mine at home. Yeah, that went well. I ened up sending it out to a local shop.

For what it will cost to repair, you can buy a used or rebuilt one!

There's a little plastic gear that disintegrates over time.

Lots of Pelicans have fixed it themselves. Do a search and you'll find threads.

This article discusses how to repair the odometer: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Mult_gauge_repair/mult_gauge_repair.htm

The part is available here: www.odometergears.com

Good luck.

Arrow gear

C'mon guys the gear replacement wasn't that bad. Just be patient in bending back the tabs and dealing with the inside parts. I replaced one not long ago with no problems.

I ordered the gear and did mine myself at home. It's wasn't a difficult fix for me... but you must take your time opening up the bezel or it will look like crap afterwards. The real tricky part to me was getting the speedo needle off without breaking it.

I have to say it was pretty easy DIY. I did mine about two months ago and a couple weeks ago did one for a friend. A little mechanical aptitude can go a long way. Just take your time and don't force anything. I didn't remove the needle, just used a flat blade on its side to get the four screws from underneath the face (after loosening everything else for more clearance).

Oh yeah, we got our gears from odometergears.com also. It arrived in my mailbox within 3 days of when I ordered it!!
