Which connector is which?

I the arrow is pointing to the CHT, what is the middle connector too, speed or reference sensor? The bottom would be the other.

Trace the wire. The two sensors look identical and can be interchanged in position.

This thread might help differentiate the speed from reference sensors....

"DG" vs. "BG"

"BG" is "bottom"...whichever one THAT is !

Okay, I have the connectors matched up but I found on my speed sensor, the wires came loose in the connector. There are two wires and a shield. I figured out how to reattach the wires, how do I connect the shield wire. The shield wire is like the shield on cable tv wire.

The car will start without the shield wire connected, it goes over to the O2 Sensor shield (pin 23 on the DME).

Any clue?

You have a 50/50 chance. It will only run one way. Ask me how I know.

Ok...ad this info to my previous post.....

from Bentley manual p. 101-4, for location of the connections in the engine compartment next to the left intake manifold:

- top sensor is cyl head temp
- middle sensor is engine speed sensor (DG)
- bottom sensor is reference sensor ( BG)

Bentley p 280-11 goes further:

as viewed near the flywheel:
the top sensor reads a raised pin..this is reference sensor ( BG)
the bottom sensor reads flywheel teeth..this is speed sensor (DG)

- Wil

PS..in German...
BG = Bezugsmarken geber ( reference mark identifier or "giver")
DG= Drehzahl geber ( revolutions identifier or "giver")

I got it running, the connector on the harness side for the speed sensor was bad, the wire had pulled out. I was able to bastardize something to make it work but now I have to find new pins to go inside the connector. The car runs fine without the shield wire connected. It goes to a common that connects to the O2 Sensor shield. Anybody know where to find the connector or the female pins.
