Why am I linking to these sites while navigating through Pelican?

I noticed lately that while I navigate through this website I link to either Images.Scanalert.com and/or Google-Analytics.com. I see the former is a PCI compliant shopping scanner. The latter for targeted advertising?

Can someone fill me in more completely?

Add: I also notice it hangs while connecting to these services making navigation through Pelican very time consuming.

I've also noticed the google-analytics site. It's irritating.

You can see the google ads at the way bottom of each page. Wayne did touch on this months ago, but I do not recall the thread or date.

Yep, I Know there are google ads. The Google Analytics site is very slow and I occasionally get a popup from trend micro saying it blocked a cookie with the name "my credit card"

Yes, I too, have noticed that Google Analytics slows things down from time to time. Maybe when Wayne gets out of the Maui waters, he can tell us what's going on As for the cookie, I have no idea.

If you've got the Google tool bar on your home page, get rid of it. Google offers it to you to "make nice" while actually using your implemention of their tool bar to do such as you describe.

At least that's what my computer geek buddies tell me.

It's not the browser, I use IE and don't get the pop-ups you described. Could be spyware you've gotten from somewhere else or could be something one of the add-on tool bars is doing.

I would suspect that you have spyware/adware bug. Place to do on-line check is at www.trendmicro.com and do a free virus/spyware scan. I would also install SpyBot and Adaware software. Also C Cleaner is another history/cookie cleaner which works well. I am using IE with Google toolbar and have no problems. Download.com has the above programs for free. 20 years of doing computers has lead to the more protection the better.

I recently have had a rash of pop-ups. Somehow I got rid of them. I did repeated spybot runs as well as adaware. reboot, redo. went to a setpoint from a week ago. more spybot. I have norton set to not allow google toolbar to get thru the firewall.

Edit - many believe google toolbar is going over the line when it does automatic updates without even telling the user. You can google "google toolbar spyware" and come up wiith stuff like the following.

I get no pop-ups, don't have the Google Tool bar and use Firefox.

Lasdt night when I tried to directly visit either site I could not connect. I suspect when this site attempted to link the same was happening and it had to wait for a time out.

The solution to this problem is to modify your hosts file to block these domains. It's really easy and brutally effective against trackers, banner ads and other browser spam. A good overview here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
