I can play with u guys...
we are shooting for 2,200-2,300 lbs.
The 3.9 should be anywhere between 370 and 390 at the flywheel...
That puts me at around 6.50 lb/RWHP.

Now I need an excuse to come to SEA next Summer eh?

Now seriously if we talk about performance and how effective the vette is vs a 911 (or 930) it would be silly to claim that the 911 is the better car.

It is just more difficult to drive, its weight balance is screwed up and its suspension design is 30 year older than the Z06.

Craig 930 RS 10-17-2006 08:23 AM

3,100/496 = 6.25

Craig 930 RS 10-17-2006 08:26 AM

Teo's: Your FWHP works to approx 315-330 RWHP
Let's call your car 2,200. 2,200/320 RWHP = 6.875

You are gonna have FUN!

Hey the Z06 guy isn't gone for good is he? I read this whole thread and I am pretty sure there was ALOT less blood spilled than if this would of gone down on a Vette board.

I have a Baja Beetle and I bet 100K he couldn't follow me 100 feet in his Z06! :p (I get to pick the "track")

C'mon back David.

Its in the shop now getting a huge port job then I get it and it looses more weight. Conservative numbers:

2350/520 = 4.52

Craig 930 RS 10-17-2006 09:10 AM

RX-7, right? How'd she do on the track going around corners and stops?
Have pictures?

For fun.

Evidently brakes can be a point of improvement on a Z06 - reading the Corvette forums regarding people who use their Z06 at the track.

A solution:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1523426

David's brakes seemed fine.

Its a total sleeper. You get an idea how fast it is going when it comes up on the Elise. (Like the brake check? This guy was an idiot in the pits I had the garage next to him and knew he was going to be an idiot on the track)

Homestead

To stay on topic, I think your 930 driven in anger is a much more rewarding. My RX-7 is very raw and will not save me when I make a mistake. It lets me know I screwed up.

People that think these cars are of higher quality than any other GM car are in serious denial. Yea they are fast but complete garbage. Hell the ROOFS ARE FLYING OFF THEM! My buddy has one and he has to drive over to the dealer to get his roof re-glued.... They are falling apart being brand new, imagine in 5 or 10 years. What a joke.

Hey Jim,

Are those Mitsubishi Starion wheels on your '7?

aseem 10-17-2006 12:31 PM

This reminds me of the Corvette vs Lotus Elise on Nürburgring. I'm sure some of you guys have seen this before, but its a great view every time. The mighty (but standard) Corvette against a race modified (but puny Eurowimp) Elise with 1,9liter 130 Hp in stock condition, weighing in at approx 1200 something punds

So what can be concluded from this? Was it the driver? the brakes? the power to weight? I don't know, but it looked like the Corvette needed a few miles of streight road to utilize its power...... Exactly our views on American cars when I grew up: Big, heavy, good looking, luxurius with lots of power, and good only in a straight line. That has changed, and I'm sure the Corvette guys have many good explanations for what you see in this video.

Back to the discusison at hand: What I find strange, is that Chevy with its enormous size, knowledge and money took SO many years to build a sports car that can beat a 25 years old (and slightly tuned) Porsche. The Elise is build on the same principle that European sports cars has been build since the 20s: light weight, good chassis and small, high rev-ing and flexible engine. (e.g BMW 328 1936-1940).

This thread contains many speculations about new vs. old, Corvette vs. 930. I don't really know or care, the sad thing is that the 930 has become a Corvette. Heavy, good looking, luxurious with lots of power.......(but still good for more than a straight line ;) ). Would I want one? Of cource I would, but the Carrera GT3 is the sports car to own in Europe (if you can afford one).

Jims5543 10-17-2006 12:32 PM

Garen - No I custom ordered them they are Circle Racing wheels 16x9.5 all around with 22x10x16 Hoosiers r35 compound (GT2 Class tires) all 4 rims ran me about $1200.

Garen 10-17-2006 12:37 PM

Ah! They looked like the same deep-dish profile of the 16x9 Mitsu Starion 2 piece optional wheel. I used to own a few Starions back in the day...

Your '7 is nice...

Craig 930 RS 10-17-2006 12:41 PM

Your RX-7 might be equally quick as my 930 on track.............
