Well we all know that P-cars handle better then Vettes so if he was faster in a straight line then you know he beat him in the corners. So that means Craig was faster per lap. Good Job Craig! (Just speculating) I feel better now. At least in my own mind....... |
/\The Vette is also reputed as a terror on the twisties so... it is anyones race, my bet is the 930 performed admirably but was ultimately spanked. If this does not smoke Craig out then nothing will ;)

current zo6 is a little more twitchy - but much better than any previous vette in the twisties. You are talking 20+ years evolution in suspension here.

The anticipation.............
Three pages and counting........... |
Somebody needs to call Craig's wife and tell her to kick his ass out of bed!

Alright, here on the west coast we are awake....and the kid is at school. Time to get to the details.
Impressions: ~Both cars are a definite challenge to drive. ~The Vette steps out at will in a bumpy corner ~The Vette excels in ultra high speed corner entry. A beast. ~The 930 now has a bit of true 'lag', so throttle planning is now a part of the equation ~930 is ever so slightly quicker in a straight line. This means, for reference, that the 930 probably does the 1/4 mile in about 11.8 seconds. ~ I have no electronics in the 930 to save my ass. The Vette has anti-lock brakes and also has a button/feature called 'Competition Mode' which allows very good feel on track, but ultimately saves the driver most every time. David's Vette was run in Competition Mode. I used my hands and feet. :p Vette was pouring smoke form the center/rear end over bumps(transmission?). Going into the shop today. The 930 handled the hard driving just fine... |
Who can host a short mpeg video?
It's decent..... |
Thanks for your impressions.
Did you keep track of LAP TIMES? :D |

I wonder if the tables were turned and he had a 20yr old heavily modified Vette against a new slightly modified Turbo. I would think that it wouldn't have been as close. Just a thought. EDIT: Maybe you could upload your video to someplace like youtube or google or something like that. |
Video? Must see footage!

I wish I had ABS, I didn't care for it until I flatspotted a brand new set of tires.

In my opinion when u go to the track there are only 2 factors that count. 1) FUN 2) Lap times. This is why I picked a 911. There are cheaper ways to go faster around a piece of tarmac. But none of them is as fun as a 911. So Craig said he used his hands and feet. That's what I am talking about. I will never sacrifice FUN to improve Lap times. I am not a professional. So the fact that Craig used his 30yr old Porsche vs a brand new Corvette is his problem. I know Craig scored higher on FUN. I'd like to know if he also lapped faster. Not that it matters because the 930 might be 30yr old... but I'd love to see how much of the original stock car is still in there... |

It sounds like they had lots of fun and that's what counts, as you said, and that's why I bought both of mine. |
Thanks for the updates...makes me wish I'd had enough notice to drive to Seattle.

Lap time were equal. He was also on new Hooisers and I was on 1 yr old Kumhos. FWTW. I was sliding around more than I like -
P.S. Uploading first video to Streetfire; simply shows acceleration rates. |
A friend told me there might be more than just a little pride and gratification in a well driven 930 vs. another easier to drive vehicle.
I'd like to believe that :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Acceleration video. Camera was zoomed in too much - the sensation of speed sucks. But you can see how equal the two cars are -
http://thumbs.vidiac.com/2b31e4c5-5d...5800d97660.jpg

Click here to see Video |
Video may not quite be ready to view - the 930 accelerates at this same rate:
