Regardless of how the times come out the Vette lost horribly in the reliability department in my book. Which isn't surprising.
Exactly :)

Yeah, there is some pride in that, isn't there?

Stock A-arms, stock major components, etc - giving the new metal a real run for the money.

Craig -

I'm with you and Matteo on this -

It's the challenge of driving one of these (old) things well, without all the gizmos, that heightens the fun and thrill.

Thanks for posting!

Craig - Thanks for all the pics and videos. I've enjoyed this thread. You could accelerate a little quicker with matching lap times. Also you car made it without mechanical failure and his did not. So in my book you are the winner for this event. You should be proud of yourself for maintaining, upgrading, repairing your 30yr old car to a higher standard then the new Z06. Great Job! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

BTW: Just out of curiosity. What does that valve do on the tailpipe of the Vette? Regulate back-pressure?

Craig 930 RS 10-12-2006 11:04 AM

I believe it opens /diverts under full throttle......not exactly sure as it appears 'open' at rest witth the engine off......

I've seen a valve like that rigged up to a Warlock muffler that basically opened a straight-thru bypass for the muffer at an RPM breakpoint. But I haven't seen one that's open/bypassing while engine is off (relaxed vacuum line?).

Very cool video. My 930 (and its owner) are salivating at the CIS possibilities.

The video my friend shot is even higher quality - I really like it.
Should be ready to view at about 8:00 or 8:30 pm Friday 10/13/06:

Bimmers have that valve as well. Noticed something funny while stopped behind one one day. I could not get an answer, so I called a BMW dealer, asked for the service dept. and asked what it was about. The thing opens upon hard acceleration. I wonder what would happen if the valve stuck shut?

+1

I had a MINI Cooper S with the John Cooper Works kit and a full suspension upgrade on it.

I was pushing a C-5 with 150+ more HP than I around the track.

I sold the MINI shortly thereafter. Why? Because the MINI was not a drivers car, it made a good driver look great and a great driver look like a god. Same goes for the Vette and all its electronic gizmos. If that makes you feel good good for you.

The drive my RX-7 and my 911 give me are so much more rewarding because when I turn a really fast lap in one of them it all me. I did it not the car, I managed to harness in the car and make it do what I wanted it to do.

Some people just cannot understand the joy of taking a bear of a car and wrestling it around a track. If you do not understand I cannot explain.

Anyone else having trouble viewing the video?

DRV2FST 10-14-2006 05:41 AM

I had an experience like Jim's. I took a Mitsu. Evolution to the track and everyone was in awe. I am not that good of a driver. It was the car. I sold it and bought a 930 for similar reasons. I want to know that it was me driving the car not technology. If I were in it for money, I'd certainly use every advantage possible but for me, this is just for fun.

Video is READY & working- streetfire took awhile.......

Emission 10-14-2006 07:31 AM

Two great sounds on the latest video:

The sound of a Turbo with the wastegate dumping!

The sound of a tuned V8 under full throttle!

Cool.

Yeah, I'm having trouble seeing the video too. Any chance you could upload it to youtube for those of us having difficulty seeing it? I'm anxious to see the videos :-)
