can this be correct? (a/c stuff)
i was checking out this 'porsche a/c info' page on excite, and it made the following point:
" The biggest difference between a Porsche and the rest of the cars on the road is the amount of rubber hose that is needed to connect all these pieces together. In the past this was the biggest problem because all this hose had been made to purposely 'bleed' freon much like your skin bleeds air. The hose was actually pricked through the outer layer each inch or so to prevent the hose from blossoming from the pressure inside. What this meant was that Porsches were subject to the loss of much more Freon than the other cars and thus had to be topped up more often. That's the only downside. " is this really true? my a/c needs a recharge now, but was charged a year ago. how do you know if you have a real leak, as opposed to 'normal' bleeding? ------------------ Adam Nitti www.adamnitti.com '85 Carrera '74 3.0 CS |

Yes, it is true that the earlier cars came with "non-barrier" hose, that is designed with pinhole leaks in it!
This was used at least through some or all of the SC years. Fortunately, I think by '85 Porsche went to "barrier hose" in the AC system, so your car should have the good stuff. An AC shop should be able to confirm this, and find your leak. |
