I need help Building an RSR, What is this Decklid????

Hey Guys,

I bought a 73 911 primarily for all the parts that came with it. Anyway it turns out that the P.O. was building a RSR. Well, after a lot of back and fourth I have decided to persue this RSR project as I am Zero$$ in the project after selling the extra bits. It came with the correct RSR front bumper, complete interior which I know will be changed. I am replacing the roof clip to a non sunroof and I need the correct rear bumper and sunroof. DO I KEEP THIS DUCKTAIL OR CHANGE IT TO THE RS LID??? I would love help on building this thing. I am not a rich guy so keep that in mind before you guys give me a "buy" list of 20K worth of stuff. I need a good suspension, carpet kit, rear bumper and wheels. I may put in a 2.7 with a 915 (7:31) I already have.
HELP HELP HELP
Thanks
Nathan

Hey Nathan,

If you are going period correct, you should sell that whale tail and GET a ducktail. That's the right one for that application.

Looks like an IROC tail.

On edit: Hunt down the guy who installed that sunroof and kick him in the beanbag.

The extra long tails were used on IROC and Carrera 3.0RS

Ok, DONE. Consider the whale tail "for sale". Do I buy the fiberglass RS tail that I see on almost all RS's??

Emptyo----Whats up with that anna with the flares??? Can you use her flares?? Also look for Craig "fastbacker" for your rear turbo flares. I almost bought that whole cae but I couldnt get to SF in time to buy it.

I still would love all the advice and pointers you guys have got. Also, give me a task in order and ill do it, and post the pic.
Thanks
Nathan

Whatever, I have steel flares which I prefer anyway, they still need a lot of work having been welded on by Helen Kellar's less talented sister.
Thanks

Hey Milt, Of course I hate to hear of any family members being ill. I purposely left out her Pelican name for the reason that until one truly has an issue, its not worth persuing. I brought it up to Emptyo on my thread and not hers coz we are RSR buddies. I removed that info from my post, you might want to do the same as to fully squash this.
Ok thats it, Now back to my project WHICH IS WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT!!!!
I just sold the decklid so I think ill buy the right tail now. I still need the other stuff.
Thanks
Nathan

Is there economic way to piece this car together?? Do I have to use parts that are expensive to achieve the track/street performance I want??

Nathan,

You've done well... it looks like a good candidate for a nice early RSR. The '73 has the updated rear cross-member, bigger clearance for the transmission bay, and some other updated goodies than a 69 - 71.

It's difficult to answer your question as to how much it will cost, it's really up to you and your expectations. One thing I can tell you for sure, NEW parts are expensive, if you can get away with mostly used parts you should be fine. Also factor in your personal time, you'll need lots of it. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions, I'm in the same boat

Hey Fernando,

I love your pics of your progress. Firstly, how did you prep the interior well enough to paint the white?? Then after paint what is it you are using to strip away the white ready for welding?? and whats the reason for welding in the metal in the inside front between the battery boxes??
Thanks
Nathan

The interior glue and sound deadening was stripped with a heat gun and a combination of putty knifes, chisels, spatulas etc. The car was then sent to sandblast and it was shot with epoxy primer by the same shop. So the "white" paint your refering to is really epoxy primer. For exterior stuff that needed to be stripped for welding, wire brushes and/or aircraft paint stripper will work.

The battery boxes were removed because the battery will be relocated to the smuggler's box. They're pretty heavy too so lost a few punds there.

Take pictures of your progress and let us know how it's going.

Looks more like a skylight. After you cut it out, maybe I can install that in my kitchen?
