RSR clone status
 

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted progress on my car. Well, it is now painted, so it's nice to see it in ONE color.

After much deliberation against adding weight back on, I decided to add sound-deadener. The M&K exhaust will be plenty loud. Here is a picture of the sound deadener, it looks easy but anything that's not flat will take some time to shape and glue down.

Yesterday, I picked up the 3.2 from the machine shop with fresh exhaust valves, guides, new rings and supertec head studs.

I still have a long way to go and hope to have it finished by next year in the spring/summer time frame. How time flies, started in Aug of '05 :eek: I'll keep you posted... cheers

nice job! the silver looks good. i did the sound deadening treatment years ago on a jensen interceptor - it's a ton of work. i wish my rsr project was a far along.

My dad owned a '73 series III and a '71 series II. we tryed to restore the '73 but the project ran out of steam and the '71 was too far gone. we ended up selling both for a fraction of what was in them. nither was the ferguson 4wd. the chrysler 440 sure sounded good with the strait pipes and free flow mufflers! My first car was a Jensen Healey with fred flintstone floorboards.

The filler pipe was fabricated from a 4 inch round stainless steel exhaust piece, picked it up
at a muffler shop. I probably should've used a galvanized piece but the stainless should do fine.
We cut the tube to about 15 inches and welded it to the tank. Make sure you have the tank
cleaned and no fumes. A good radiator shop should be able to do this. We also welded a tab on
the rear/top of the tank that bolts down to the chasis, this should help the tank to stay in
one position and not bang the opening on the hood (at least we hope that won't happen). Another
thing to keep in mind is the gasoline splashing and possibly flowing all the way to the top
and spilling out the cap, nobody wants gasoline on top of their hood... We'll see how it all works out.

The tub was transported with very little suspension and rolling wheels. At the sanblasting place
they allowed me to take all suspension off and put it aside until they were done. At pick-up time,
the suspension was bolted up again and rolled into a tow truck. Same deal at the painter's,
although the suspension didn't have to come all the way off. Just enough for them to paint the
areas. I bought a quart of paint to touch up any missed spots under the car. If you plan it well
ahead of time you could find a towing services with fork-lifts to load and unload a tub, but some
shops are not setup to take on a tub, at least the body shop I used wasn't.

The epoxy-coated garage floor if pretty durable... except when you bang it with a hammer, use brake
cleaner or pb-blaster (ask me how I know!) Brake cleaner will take the epoxy clear layer and pb-
blaster will stain the floor. I'll probably have the clear coate re-shot when I'm done.

I sold the 993 to buy and build the RSR clone... I miss it, it was a fun car to drive, and it was cheaper too!

Are you sure you welded stainless to mild steel? That seems odd? I've actually never heard of that.
