17" tire question: 315/35 or 335/35

Really, I have read most of the tire topics here, but I just want to make absolutely shure before I order tires. I have 9.5x11x17 Lindsey P2 wheels on the way; they are being welded as we speak.

After reading all (most of them anyway) the tire topics here, I have increased front width from 255 to 275. This to better balance the rears which will be 315/35 or 355/35.

Most people here running 11x17 rear have 315/35 so this should be a shure bet. BUT I save about $150 on 335s compared to 315s (Michelin Pilot Sports). Besides Wide is high on cool.

Any experience with the 335's R17 on the board? Any reason NOT to choose 335's? Mike over at Lindsey recomended 315s, and they'll be a better match for the 275's up front.

Btw, its a 1980 930

Appreciate any input on this.

Mike's right. 275/315 will handle better than 275/335. I have room for either in back, but I run the 315's and a small spacer.

I would run the BFGoodrich g-force T/A KD's, if you can get them.

Thanks Jack. I know you've tried a few combinations over the years...

I originally ran 255/315, which produced a similar problem with high speed plowing.

Isn't it better to fill the fenders to the max, and adjust the balance of the car with the sway bars?

You can't make a racehorse out of a bull, but you can make an awfully fast bull.

Alot!

That's what I'm currently running, and I'm stepping up to 275 with my new wheels. Realistically, unless you drive super hard, most won't notice.

Old school 930s use to run 225/50-15s in front and 345/35/15s out back.
Now THAT is a recipe for understeer !
