pulsing/hesitation resolved, and singing swepco praises...

boy, am i in a good mood today. my low end hesitation problem is now gone. the problem went away after i did 2 things: 1. changed the o2 sensor, and 2. replaced a spark plug connector that lost its 'snap-in-place-ness'... (one of my spark plug connectors was just basically sitting on the head of the plug snugly. the tiny retaining snap wire in the connector had evidently broken.) i really think the new o2 sensor is what took care of most of the problem, though. the car even seems to sound better, for some reason!

i also changed my gear oil to the swepco 201, and GEEZ... it's like driving a completely different car now; i'm not kidding! not only is my car rocketing out of the low rpm's now and putting a sinister grin on my face, but my shifting quality has GREATLY improved, making my car even more fun to drive. i had my gearbox redone about 1200 miles ago, so my gearbox was feeling nice and tight already. but now shifter motion is so much more 'buttery' and smooth. seems to be much less baulkiness than before, especially in higher gears. i still encounter some resistance when shifting at idle-speed rpms and slightly higher, but maybe that's just because my gearbox components are still wearing in...

anyways, i'm a happy camper!!!!!!!!!

What year is your car?
Mine's an 84 and I performed the shifter upgrade this week. Went to the Porsche quick shifter. Definitely a tighter pattern if you've an 84 or older Porsche!

I second your opinion on Swepco 201. I have a very similar situation with my 81 SC. It was rebuilt 1400 miles ago, so it is tight and smooth. I had the factory quick shifter installed as well. Everything was good and tight (best shifting Porsche I have driven), but the tranny oil was some cheap crap the shop used. I changed it to Swepco 201 a few weeks ago, and wow! I have autocrossed it once since and there was a huge difference is the smothness of shifts from 1st to 2nd and vise versa. I just concluded a 400 mile tour of the Wasatch mountains, and the car shifted so well, I felt sorry for the other SC owners that were on the tour with out Swepco.

kurt b:

my car is an '85. are you digging the shifter upgrade? how hard was it to install?

blackdiamonds:

do you experience a baulkiness in your tranny when trying to upshift at very low rpms? i was wondering if my gearbox just needs more miles on it... also, it seems the swepco seems to make things even better the more you drive the car. i've only put about 30 miles on it since the change.

Shifter Upgrade: Won't be nearly as dramatic for 85s or 86s. You'll want some advice before you install, it's a bit nasty, but came off without a hitch.
