Thanks again for the kind words, everyone.
Mark - Great to read your email. I'll send you David N's contact details, as I'm sure he would love to hear from you. Guys, guys, guys - having nothing but silver cars could provide us with a strategic advantage. "Yes, officer, but which silver 911 was the one that was speeding?" It would be like the ball under the coconut trick; which one is it under? "I know you didn't buy that from an add - how do you get connected to the seller. That seems like a story unto itself." I was shooting a car from Don Ahearn's incredible collection in Long Island for an upcoming feature in Excellence (should be out in a few issues). Don needed to thin out his collection, which included my '71. The car was not cheap - we know how "hot" the early 911s have been in the last few years - and it was a big decision. I realized, however, that the automotive gods only shine on you a few times in your life, and my concern was that I'd always regret it if I let it go. It was, after all, the living manifestation of my life-long dream. When my supportive wife (and fellow early 911 fan) saw the car, her knees buckled and her eyes got misty. I was worried that it was from sticker shock, but it was because it also represented her early 911 dream. The drive home was fun. As I noted, the car was suffering from the storage blues, bucking, hiccupping, farting, brakes binding, etc. I was completely oblivious to it however, with a big stupid grin on my face. Every time we came to a stop light, my wife (following me in our Golf), would jump up and down in the driver's seat clapping her hands. I like her.

John, it sounds like you have a wonderful wife. You must go home and give her a big hug right now! My wife is supportive of my mechanical "bad habits" and really thinks my T is "cute." That said though, she did not have the same reaction to the car as your wife. Pretty cool...
Great car. You will enjoy her and the great people around these cult classics.

James, I forgot you painted your car silver - that makes 7 silver early cars! That could look pretty cool going down the road.

Beautiful car, I hope you continue to autocross it. The autocross photos are from Camden, NJ under the Ben Franklin bridge, before the stadium was built. Philly SCCA and South Jersey SCCA and maybe Reisentoter PCA ran events there, but it wasn't back in the day, it was in the 90's. I don't believe there was AXing in Camden much before 1990 or so. It was a great location, (well a nice big parking lot anyway) and it is too bad it was lost. Maybe some other NJ/PA old timers! can chime in. Now the speedster photo, definitely "back in the day"!

Yes, but what you don't realize is that I'm only 15 years old, so 1990 IS back in the day
I appreciate the photo context. All I knew was that it done post repaint - good to have the photo location details. Cheers, J |

We had dinner with three couples and all of the women loved cars. One of them was a driving instructor. Women look so sexy in a racing helmet. How far up the island do you live?

beautiful car john. so gorgeous in silver. i love pre impact bumper 911's. i recently aquired my swb '67 red 911 and its the best thing i ever did. getting back into my daily driver (bmw 320i cabriolet) after driving it is simply a non-event. the porker and it's early flat 6 is the best thing ever and i simply can't bore my friends enough about it! some buddies and i are planning to do a winding road swiss alps tour in april (2 x pre 1970 911's and 2 x MGs (a fun but strange mix) - anyone in this part of the world with an old timer up for that give me a shout) here's my car (sorry for crappy environment - not many pictures so far) - i pick up 'real plates' for it tomorrow. hope you're enjoying your car as much as i already do. most people miss a big part of life not driving a 911 but don't know it. it's magic and you can't explain it to friends. click the pic for a closer view. original colour respray coming soon.

What a great example of 'deja vu all over again' ...
I am sure it was Camden NJ (Parking Lot). The RTR region used it for many years for autocrossing. I can see a piece of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the Philadelphia sky-line has to be from late ‘80s’-early ‘90s Good Show! Quote:
