Adding Webers to a 2.7

I have an opportunity to throw some 40 webers on a basically stock 2.7 motor. Is it worth the time and hassle and what gains can be made? The webers would be virtually free and I'm not looking to do a bunch of other engine work other than exhaust.

Although I don't have any experience with CIS, conventional wisdom says you will feel noticeable gains in throttle response and the car will feel faster. I used to have a 2.7 with Webers, and the car ran great. Now I have a 3.0 with the same Webers and it still runs great.

If you like tinkering and like carbs then try it. Personally unless you track the car or really are not happy with the performance, I would stick with the CIS. It works well when correct and would be a lot better fuel mileage than the webers.

I love carbs but as I get older do not want to putz with somethings, and the webers usually need some fiddling with from time to time.

your wide oped to opinion..carbs mandatory ( or Fuel injection ) if your gonna bump the C/R...as CIS wont let you (reversion) You have no reason to go to carbs unless you bump C/R as your hp/ TQ will stay the same......X amount fuel =x amount of pwr.....you changed nothing except maybe your throttle response

Instead of webers install the Electromotive crank fire ignition. The CIS and an almost continual spark of the crank fire makes for a good combo.

John - give it a try, but keep the CIS just in case things don't work out. IMO, the Webers offer more performance, even on a CIS engine. They weigh less than CIS by about ten pounds, and usually you can tune them to run well with CIS pistons. Certainly, you won't maximize their ability with the CIS pistons, but there are benefits to Webers, such as a cooler running engine.

Gas mileage can depend as much upon your gearing as your engine. For instance, if you have a 7.31 ring and pinion, you're not going to get very good mileage, even if you have CIS.

I have 40 IDAs on my 2.7, I've found them very reliable, balance them once a year and go! biggest drawback is fuel economy, about 15-16 mpg. mind you that may have something to do with the skinny pedal spending so much time on the floor. Don.

Do it. You get great sounds, seemingly better throttle response, no more power.

But... more emissions & worse fuel economy. Not a biggie if you live outside an emissions control area and don't drive the car much.

Add SSIs too...
