3.2 msd coversion
OK so one more question...
I am thinking of installing an MSD 6al on my 3.2 motor. Has anyone done this that could comment on whether this is worthwhile? Also the motor is in a 1975 911s, does this need the adapter to run correctly on this particular tachometer?

The Motronic engine management system doesn't suffer from any problems that the MSD unit could solve i.e. it wouldn't be an "upgrade".

currently the tach is pretty sloppy, it moves smoothly but kind of flops on either side of where the engine is actually at... Does anyone know if this is from the mismatch between the motronic and the 75 tachometer or does the tach need to be rebuilt?

Send your tach to North Hollywood Speedo and ask them to dampen the needle movement,.... ![]() Works just great!

Better yet, send it to Pelican who has an excellent tach & speedo source.
Some shops have reported problems with the above mentioned.

My 74 tach works fine with my 86 3.2.

I installed MSD 6A in my 3.2 carrerra motor which is in a 74s

I'm getting ready to do the same, a few questions: I also purchased the tack adapter is it really needed? How does the motronic control the rev. limiting..solely by the chip? I have the 6AL unit which can manually control the rev, which overrides which...the motronic or the manual rev jumpers? I just use the chip RPM limiter (steve wong chip) I believe mine is set to 7000, I dont know how the MSD rpm limiter would work, as the stock CPU in the motronic would cut in at 6800. where are the manual rev jumpers? (on the MSD 6AL?)
FYI, I dont think there is any more top end power, but the economy is way better and the low end better, + it feels more responsive and smooth. Lastly no I did not use the MSD tach adapter (have brand new one for sale now!) The Motronic is connected directly to the tach and the signal is sent to the ecu via the flywheel triger. are you running a stock ecu chip? highly recomend steve wong one - at least 10% difference, especially low end torque! bcaway

The rev. limiter chips are directly on the 6AL unit, on the lower side. I too bought the MSD tach adapter because Wayne's 101 project book recommended it. I have several performance chips but I'm going to get rid of them and go with a Steve Wong.
