In the process of undertaking some general rust repair, I removed the bumper to find this tube hanging out from the front of the car. I followed it back, and it goes to the small metal pipe under the fuse box, and on to the petrol overflow container in the front wheel arch. Can someone please inform me if this tube is going to the correct location, and what it is intended for???

Wild Ass Guess
This tube pulls gasoline vapor off the the overflow tank and vents the fumes over the front of the car in an effort to melt ice off the headlights????? Nahhhhhh, what is it?

what year car??
I thought the evap. emissions stuff was a sealed system - yours may be for a '68 or earlier - check the hole ot see if it looks factory too Like the idiotic way that P AG ran fuel and vapor lines right next to the electrics? Maybe it was part of their "Force you to buy a new car" campaign... Excellence was Expected (but not Achieved in the Electric System)

something may bewrong - all US SC's have the evaporative emissions system - dunno re Euro's
I'd put it back the way it should be - search on those 3 terms for some diagrams and info -- there are several threads on it.

It is a factory installation and the hose is where it is supposed to be. There would originally have been a little metal tab spot-welded to the front of the tub to hold the black plastic end of the hose. It's a Euro thing, as the cars for that market didn't have the same evaporative emissions system as a US car. I have no idea why Porsche routed the hose the way they did.

Pal,
You could re-route it, I guess, but I just leave most things the way the were built. You might want to add something to secure it to the front of the tub. There was originally a little strip of metal spot welded to the tub just to the inside of the left bumper support mount. It would be like those little metal tabs that you see all over the tub that hold the wiring harnesses in place. JR |
