Why build this car?? A real one is probably cheaper

Why would anyone spend this much time nad money to build this car on a 1980 frame when you could probably buy the real deal for less tiem and money than this took to build a replica.

You read it all. I just skimmed it becasue who would really take the time to read all of that. Imagine how long that took to write.

Without a doubt, the single most anal, longest winded auction posting I have seen in 8 years on eBay.

Porsche Crest

The lies/distortions begin in paragraph 2:

Quote:
Besides, the chassis of a 1980 Porsche 911 and a 1996 993 are about 80% the same.

Only 118 paragraphs more to stretch the truth in ...

I agree. I had to take a break halfway through and re-read War And Peace just for a breather.
As for why, I had the same question the other night when I was mistakenly watching some 'pimp my ricer' show on speedvision. (I was gluing up some plywood and my hands were too sticky to switch channels or throw anything at the TV)
Anyway, the kid had a hopped-up Chrysler 300 with flat screens all over, a DVD player, 50 disc Alpine changer, a PS2, GPS, 38 Polk speakers, Onstar, four Waring blenders and a silkworm missile launcher just for good measure. $125,000 invested, he said.
Yeah, but it's still a Chrysler.

Regards,

Jeez.....
He should have written a book.
Probably he would get way more money back on that (a book)....compared with what eBay will likely bring for the car.
I gave up reading 5 minutes in.

Well if it walks like a duck and talks like one, I guess this *REALLY* is a 993 Turbo, expect for the tub, engine, suspension and a few other smallish details

Really is a nice job, though. Too bad it probably isn't worth much (if any) more than the sum of the parts.

No, no, no. You're just not getting it. It is exactly because it is not a 993 that it is worth more than a 993. Or something like that. Wait I'm not sure about that either.

That was quite a write up. I'm tried now.
Agree on Why??
I would cringe on the DMV loops you would have to do if you did buy it , at least in CA.

That's how you sell a car on eBay if you want max dollars from the great unwashed. You OVERSELL. And he did.

Man, you guys are harsh.

The car looks very well done to me. Is it a real 993 Turbo? Of course not. But is Jack's car a real RSR? No. But they can still be nice cars and fun projects.

Did he spend too much money on it on his project? Umm, yeah. But if that's a crime, most of us would be doing hard time by now.

Could he have bought a real 993 Turbo for the money he spent? Maybe. But if projects have to make financial sense, a lot of us are morons.

Does he suffer from verbosity? Yeah, but I think he is just passionate about his project. Nothing wrong with that.

The,
I agree. Some of the folks who aren't speaking up are those with larger invoice folders.

Maybe Pelican should create a new forum called "911 Owner Criticism". Every forum contributor must submit pics and invoices for their own car - call it the cost of participation.
