Bleeder valve threads
Currently rebuilding brake calipers. Should I be applying anything to the threads of the bleeder valves before reinstalling them? I saw this photo on Pelican.

I bleed my brakes all the time and I've never used any type of thread locking.

No thread locker; they have to stay moveable.
I actually use anti-seize on the threads because I don't ever want them to rust in.

I'm with Dr. G. You don't absolutely need any kind of extra goop.
But it would be nice if someone could quiz our host about what that red stuff is. If it is a combination of non-hardening sealant and rust preventative, that would be a good thing. When the bleeder is cracked open air can get by the threads. Guys using vacuum bleeders notice this more than others. Doesn't seem to matter much, but when you are so careful not to let any air bleed backward into the caliper through the bleeder, you worry. Walt Fricke |
