Factory Alarm system

just hooked it up finishing the car up the thing is when It is set I use the key to unlock the door, as soon as the door is open the alarm goes off, no time to get the alarm key in the door to turn it off before it goes off is it supposed to do that?

Does it have the key in the door?

If so, I think you are supposed to open the door just enough to get the key in and disarm the alarm.

Or is it different in an 85?

Yes, just crack the door far enough to disable the alarm.

on my 86 it will go off if there is more than about 1.5" (3cm) between the inside of the door and the back of the door jamb. You really can't open it more than the minimu required to get the key in...
