CIS Steel injector lines

I think that I want to replace my rubber/plastic injector lines on my 1977 2.7 CIS motor with steel ones. What years did they come on? Will they work on my motor? Anything that I should know?
Thanks in advance for any info.

-Patrick

No one has any insight to this? I have to assume that the steel lines will be better than the plastic/rubber lines......

I bought a replacement set from another CIS for my 78SC CIS. I didn't like the idea of plastic and simply wanted to learn more about the CIS connections, not too difficult to replace, but I was new at the time, and it took a while.

Not sure about finding them new anywhere -- like I said mine were off another CIS assembly, used but in great condition.

Bought a set myself as well (used) to replace the plastic/nylon lines, paid about €100. Haven't installed them yet. If memory serves me right not all lines are available new anymore.

I think the Euro CIS has them also, as my Euro 3.0 setup has them.

Replacement kits for plastic CIS lines are sorely needed by many of us. I've been waiting for years for someone to offer such a kit, plastic or metal.

Patrick,
I have headed down the same road with my 77. I'm rebuilding the top end of my engine, this winter, and while it's out i'm updating to the steel lines. The mating fittings at the fuel distributor are different than the fittings for the plastic lines, as well. I found mine by doing exactly what you are doing, asking on Pelican, but it took several tries before I received a response. They are out there, my friend.

Besides the metal lines themselves, is there anything else needed for the conversion? For instance new crush washers or something?

Thanks for the info.

Scott,
If you are updating a plastic line system to metal lines, in addition to the lines , you also need the correct mating fittings in the fuel distributor. Those fittings need crush washers.

Al,

Yes I have the metal lines to replace the plastic lines.

So I need to find the fittings that go between the fuel distributor and the lines themselves? And of course the crush washers for the fittings?

You wouldn't happen to have the part numbers for the fittings and the washers, do you?

Thanks.

I ordered the correct Nylon line from McMaster Carr to replace my Wur line that got kinked by a PO. There are some threads on replacement if you get into a bind being able to find steel lines. Not too difficult. The rubber damper coats on them may be the only difficult part.

Some of the racing 917 engines used Nylon FI lines. I still have Nylon and they are all from '78 except for the WUR line.

Best,

Have a look here, for all available parts (doesn't make you happy)

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=911M&section=FULcis&page=9&bookmark=33&part_number=930-110-570-00-OEM

I think a lot of Pelicans replace the lines themselves for nylon, if yo do a search you'll find many subjects on this.

...about the 917 lines, I've been wondering about this myself as well, with Classic racing I've seen a lot of nylon lines (see pic)beeing used not black but transparent so there must be another source for this but haven't found out how....

I'm looking at the PET diagram for an '83 and it looks like in addition to the metal lines I need parts 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d. Is this correct?

Can anyone confirm that 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d are what I need to add the metal CIS lines to my '80 3.0 engine?
