Love the color! Maybe a little orange to set it off?

Would you mind expanding on, "used that peel-away stripper on the undercoating."

And also what media did you have them blast your car with?

Thanks and good luck getting that beauty back together. Should be a couple months of fun.

Rich

peel-away is some type of citrus stripper where the stripper is brushed on the undercoating or paint and then these plastic sheets are placed over the stripper. i guess the plastic keeps the stripper from evaporating so it can work its way deeper into the undercoating. after a couple days the plastic peeled off with the undercoating. it worked well and the bodyshop now uses it regularly. it doesn't smell bad either. for the media blasting the guy used many different types to strip the car. he tried to get the undercoating off but it didn't work - thats when i found the peel-away. the media blasting got to be a little expensive because he was spending so many hours trying to get the undercoating off - i have no idea why someone who does this for a living doesn't know that media won't strip undercoating. if i had to do it over i would use the peel-away on everything and then have the shell media blased to get into the nooks and crannies.

i might use some orange for the race graphics but i like the solid gulf blue look. Chuck Moreland's RS looks great with the orange around the bottom. i'm still unsure what carrera etc graphics to go with either - any input is welcome!

Thanks for the information. I hope I am not being a nag, but do know specifically which peel-a-way you used? That undercoating is a real P-I-A, and if you found a product that works I would be indebted to you greatly. As you can see in this web site,
http://www.dumondchemicals.com/html/peelaway2.htm#1

peel-a-way has wide range of products. I am guessing that you must have either used peel-away 2 or peel-away 7. But if you know for certain it would be great.

I am following you advice on the peel-away stripping then media blasting the nooks and crannies. Only difference is that I used air craft stripper on the body instead of peel-away. The aircraft stripper did absolutely nothing to the undercoating material.

Thanks again,
Rich

Car looks stunning....just the inspiration I need to keep on with mine!

All being well mine will be going for paint in about 3 - 4 weeks, I'm going with the gulf blue with orange bumpers and stripe straight over the top.

I see you say that you painted it the wrong colour blue to start with..... I've been doing some searches to find the correct paint colour /code as I don't want to get it wrong, I have come up with various different codes but not all from people who have actually painted one! could you tell me correct colour as I dont want to do the same as you had to!! also any idea on the code for the orange?

Keep us posted on the build looks great, I'll post some pics of mine on another thread as i don't want to hijack your thread :)

Thanks STEVE

as for the peel-away, you have the right stuff. i think the major difference between the peel away and normal aircraft stripper is the plastic sheeting. the sheeting keeps the stripper from evaporating. the stripper keeps on working on the undercoating while normal stripper evaporated after a few hours and does not soak into the undercoating to much.

as for the color formula, i don't know what it is but i will try and get it from the bodyshop. the problem was that the paint supply company used a electronic eye to scan the leftover paint i had. somehow they scanned the wrong part and got a lighter hue. fourtunatly i had a part of the car that was the correct color for me to compare. i don't know why the bodyshop painted the car without my approval first but i'm glad i stood my ground and made them re-paint it. it just cost me yet another month to get them to paint it again. the car still needs to go back to the bodyshop for some quality issues. i'm so fed up with bodyshops. next time i'll learn how to weld and paint and do it myself.

I can relate. When I was having my car done the bodyshop it was at closed its doors and my car disappeared.

When I finally located my car I had to send my friend with his flatbed to steal my own car back. The car was being "stored" at the former shop owner's house, so I told my friend that if the guy gave him any static to rip the front of his house off with the towtruck. JUST GET MY CAR BACK!!

Needless to say, I was PISSED!!

I feel your pain...

Fantastic car! Subscribed, can't wait for the up-dated pics!

gestalt1 09-11-2007 04:58 PM

here are a few pics. the rsr type perlon dash turned out to be easy, i got the perlon from appbiz and used cardboard to cover the various openings in the sheetmetal. i used 3m super 90 to glue all the carpet, much better than the super 77. i glued black vinyl to a stick of 1/4 plywood and screwed it from behind to block the rectangular holes in the dash front. the front bumper needs some custom brackets, rennspeed stuff is really getting to be annoying, the front bumper is a little too wide and it has no provision for mounting in the front. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189558027.jpg
