That Colour is Not Porsche Gulf Blue.

That is a Baby Blue that was used on the GULF GT 40's.

Here are some pictures of the right Gulf Blue that was used on 1972 & 1973 RS Carrera's.

Sorry to Rain on your post, but I have been set straight on this recently and no matter how much I argued I finally came round to understanding what the true colour was.

This is a Genuine RS that was sold in France in May this Year in Gulf Blue. If you look closley you will see that there is a Red Tinge to it.

Very nice :).

Wickd89 12-06-2007 06:53 AM

Awesome. I would love a blue 911. Are you going to add the orange strips? If so where? Orange rims?

KillerDynoSoar 12-06-2007 07:33 AM

Are those all steel flares you have there?

Your car rocks by the way ;)

All depends on personal choice. Highly recommend looking at colors in person for contrasts and hue's of different camera exposures and light can make the same color look completely different. Below are 2 shots of mine shot in Polar Blue (closest to MacAllister's Gulf 917 as studied at Monterey Historics back in '04...why I chose it)..

Darker...overcast

Be prepared to have any "light" colored car morph to light conditions and choose accordingly.

:) I just won some of those rims on ebay. Got em for $415 shipped... was this a good deal?

Are you talking about the orange BBS's from above?

gilach 12-06-2007 09:35 AM

the GT40 blue looks great on the porsche, better than the original. perhaps you could do a bright orange interior?

jtkkz 12-06-2007 09:35 AM

I was actually going to build an Iroc exactly like this one.

However I decided to run with 2.8 RS instead which will not have any stripes. At least I think it won't at this stage???

I agree, however many people mix up the Gulf colour rather than using the correct colour code.

Below is A non original Gulf and an Original Gulf for the Allison IROC car.

As you can see, The first is clearly Baby Blue and the second is a slightly darker Blue with the slighest red tinge to it.

Mr.Puff 12-06-2007 01:15 PM

:) Those colors are so close.

Condor_Man 12-06-2007 01:27 PM

Mr Puff.

Are you using a Commodore 64??

There is a very distinct differnce.

True... but in some cases... people are leaning more toward the GT40 Gulf color of '68-'69 fame, before Porsche made a Gulf color. Porsche Gulf was different than Wyer's, and inteded as different. Interestingly...Pale/ Powder blue PO30-8013 and Marigold PO30-3393 are not the true Gulf colours but ones of the Wiltshire Oil Company (that Gulf acquired). All depends on what angle the owner is going. As long they love the color he/she chooses....all good.

i had a hard time getting the correct shade - body shops today don't really make the effort. i had an old can of left over paint from when the previous owner painted my car and had the paint supplier scan it to get a mixture formula. unfourtunatly they scaned a dried spot out side the can that was not right, the painter painted my car without getting an approval and it was to light. i made them strip the car down again and re-paint the correct color. the bodyshop learned an expensive lesson.

the new ford gt heritage blue is a modified version of gulf blue - it's more intense than the original shade. i would not go off any printed photo of a car painted gulf blue. the print of the colors are always off.
