Radio and No Start

History:

Have had a nagging no start issue whenever it rains or is overly humid.

Cranks fine, just does not fire.

Already went through all the standard stuff, clean grounds, new cap and rotor, new ignition wires etc... Nothing helped. Shop had it for a while and they ccould not figure it out either.

Car was in for a valve adjust recently and has been behaving ever since.

Pouring rain it now starts.

I have not had the radio turned on at all since then and in retrospect the issue may have started after I swapped the radio a couple of years ago.

So the question, is there anything in the circuits that the radio ties into that could cause a no start if the radio or connections are bad?

Thanks

i doubt it has anything to do with the radio....there are only a couple wires having to do with powering up the radio.....i looked at my pet for '84 and here is what i have...
yellow from the keyswitch for ignition
constant 12v should be on the same cirquit as the cig lighter and interior light...
the power antenne wire off the radio should go to the thin black wire which is attatched to the antenne....

so i would say no the radio would not keep the car from starting .....

i can email you the 84' wiring diagram if you want it.....

my carrera didn't like to start smoothly for a while when it sat out in the rain, it ended up being moisture in the dist cap, a little wd-40 in the cap solved the problem....

Thanks Bell,

The diagram would help. My thought is the PO may have wired it incorrectly and when I swapped it I just redid his work and a faulty deck is doing something wacky.

When I start the car and the radio is on I get 5 seconds of what sounds like a conbination of a blown speaker and static.

Like I said i have personally done all the standard stuff and my shop has tackled it many times with no success.

Thanks for the input.

Beru. Had the problem before I put on the new set. Old set were also Beru.

I am looking at other possibilities simply because all the standard stuff has been addressed numerous times by multiple people.

Yeah it's got a DME relay. 1st time it happened I swapped with the spare in the glove box. Also swapped out the DME with a spare I have.

My shop did the same.

Stomachmonkeys is a Letterman joke. He used to do this bit on how bands get their names. He'd roll these wood dice with words on them and one time stomach and monkeys came up. Dave went into a new bit about having gone out for Mexican food and ended up with a case of the stomachmonkeys.

I thought it was funny so i registered the domain. This was like 10 years ago. Had a punk band contact me a bunch of years back about buying it but I said no.
