When I got my '79 in 1999 I thought "light blue metallic" was kind of rare. Over the years I have seen a few around and many listed on the PCA SC Registry. Later SC's have what looks like the same color but with a different name.

Dalmation Blue
Does anyone have a picture of a 911 in this color. I have always thought it was one of the most distinctive Porsche had.

Here's one:

I am mostly a 928 and 944 guy but I was searching the forum and was saw this thread and was wondering why this was never brought up. Zyclamrot/Cyclamen red.
I would think that to be pretty rare as I know of only a handful of Porsche painted this color Here is a pic I took it from this thread (my car is in that thread also) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/Porsche-928-technical-forum/528673-my-86-5-rebuild-thread-2.html#post5219164 http://members.rennlist.com/andy_roe/One-more-then!.jpg |
I own an original 78 ROW Petrol Blue, but the PO painted it "Guards Red" in mid 80's.
I want to go back to Petrol Blue.... Someday.... |

I have that color on my 944S2. That is not my 911 it is andy_roe's. I just used that photo from the thread on 928 color because of it being a 911 in what I think is a rare Porsche color. I have seen that the Panamera comes in a color that is close to Zyclamrot. |
Geez, my car must have a fairly rare color on it. I'll admit that it is not the original color, which was guard's red. But the current color is Kalahari Beige Metallic. The repaint was done using glasurit paint (the previous owner actually included one of the labels from a can of the paint they used with the component percentages and everything).
So, I'm guessing that I might have the only 1981 911 SC Targa in kalahari beige metallic. There might be a few others, but since this color wasn't present when the car was new, any others would have to be repaints as well. I'm on my iPhone, so I can't put a picture in my post. I MIGHT have a couple in my garage though. I love the color. It really works well with the targa's shape and roofline. The black targa bar is an attractive contrast to the metallic beige. The previous owner also had a set of 3 piece wheels installed. The logo on the centers are "ARE" which I can't find references to online. What's strange is the wheel sizes. It seems that usually people have 7 or 7.5" wide front wheels and 8 or 9" wide rears. My fronts are 7" wide and the rears are 8.5" wide. I just put new tires on the wheels, stock sizes: 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear. With the direzza star specs on there, it's easy to see how stretched out the rear tires are because of how stiff their sidewalls are. Here's the paintcode for the kalahari beige metallic: KALAHARI BEIGE METALLIC Y4/LA1Y I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on this color. I have really come to love it. Michael |

HELP w/color
:mad:still havent seen Lhasa green. My cars original color but its been repainted.Im about to paint the car again, was considering going back to it but cant find another 911 to compare.
|
I'm still searching for you. Here is Lhasa on a 924.
The 924 I had linked to as an example of Lhasa green was not a good example. It is faded and the picture takes away the depth and richness of the color. The link I sent you that was on 2bennett's website is a good example of the color. it really is a gorgeous color Michael |
Wow, nice car. Talbot yellow is very rare on an SC.
