83sc rough idle. help!!! please help!
to whom it may concern, i'm new in the community. my 83sc is giving me a lot of headache for about a month. it's been running rough, i.e. idle is up and down, loss of power, chatters or jerks while engaging gear to gear driving, it's no smooth like it use to. so i decided to tune it up, new cd-ignition box, and replaced (WUR) warm-up regulator. i thought this was the problem. i'm SOL on this and it's still running the same. i've checked everything. i don't know what else to do. car has only 88k on it.

Does your clock and dome light work? If not, check the 5 amp fuse in the panel up front. That fuse also powers the O2 sensor. Had a somewhat similar problem on my 83SC.

wow, this could be hard to trouble shoot. im no pro, but you are in the right place to get some answers. If you have access to a timing light, set the timing at 5 deg BTDC. I would then suggest having a professional set your air/fuel mixture. If im not mistaken, your car has a lamda sensor or something like that. I have heard you can unplug the sensor and then set the air/fuel mixture for best results. Hopefully John Walker will chime in. Im assuming that your plugs and wires are ok from the tune up. you didnt mention new cap and rotor, im assuming you did that in your tune up as well including the fuel filter and fuel accumulator. Also, there is a chance that your injectors need to be cleaned or replaced.
If you dont have "101 Projects" get it, its a life saver good luck and keep us posted, welcome to the board.

kemo, thanks for the input. yes, i've replaced all i.e. plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel, etc. i also have 101 projects. it didn't have enough info on it to troubleshoot. did not replace fuel accumulator? does it have to be new also?

look under the passenger seat for the relay that powers the O2 sensor computer, which is also under there. relay is in front, by the tunnel. engine hot, then unplug the relay and see if the idle falls off or nothing happens. it should fall off and run rougher. the domelight fuse powers the relay. or take out the domelight fuse for that matter.
