Nagging power lock issue driver side only

After messing around with a sticky auto lock in the driver's door for some time, I now think I have the problem isolated.

Problem is that the lock is sticky in the "lock" mode....never a problem in "unlock". But whenever I get it "loosened up" it works great.

I've now isolated the problem to be with the door lock/door handle. The cental locks work fine UNTIL I open the driver's door using the outside trigger handle. It's as if the mechanism fails to fully return to its position. Diagrams indicate that there are tension springs attached to the door lock. I'm thinking these need to be replaced.

Anyone else experience a similar problem?
