You barely have enough room for both those cars in there. Time to "renovate" the garage

Man this is an interesting thread! Those rear flares make my 11" turbo flares look tiny...
Forgive me if you've already answered this but what are you planning on running for wheels/tires and what do you have planned for an engine? Keep up the progress updates! |

I am scare sh#@$%less on the amount of cutting that is required for the rear panels... time to search in the folder for those photos of others who have done it... I don't want to cut more than is needed and even will try to leave as much original metal as possible...
from the initial looks of the FG panels it looks like I have to remove the rear side glass and cut into the window frame ![]() I need to do my homework now before I make the first cut... ![]()

RSR with vented flairs-What wheels are you using?? Looks like I will end up with something like these: ![]() Engine: not too many changes... only plan to put some PMO 46 carbs to give it a better look... when the time comes, a rebuild but not planning on making any changes from the stock components unless is for reliability reasons...

-increased overall wheel/tire weight that is unsprung weight. -increased overall tire diameter and it's affect on gearing. I believe the car in the pic above has a 3.6 engine which of course helps overcome the issues mentioned above! Those big meats might be a bit much for a stock 3.0 and stock 915 trans. Edit: Regardless...you've got a very cool project in the works... |

What did you need the new fan and housing for?

A few weeks back I started to hear like the fan was touching the housing... I thought it was the alternator bearings that had gone bad. I removed everything and took the alternator to a repair shop... bearings were fine. After looking again at the fan housing I noticed several cracks... rather than trying to fix those (read a few post here that welding the magnesium housing was going to be a pita) I decided to order a new one.
Porsche no longer makes the housing so I ended up buying a replacement. These come in Aluminum now... BTW, I will be soooo happy when I remove all that CIS stuff and replace it with a beautiful set of PMO carburetors... but first I need to finish all the body work, and get the wheels/tire combo... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You can see one of the cracks it in this photo, in the lower left side... ![]() I had to do the new fan housing, new 11 Blade Alternator Fan (also in aluminum), and new 90amp alternator (because I needed the updated alternator to work with all the other parts, housing is for an 84 and requires this alternator)... I also ordered the nice looking strap from Rennline (via Pelican Parts) to go with the changes. Now I only need to decide what color I will paint them (maybe best to powdercoat them since there are all new.... hummm...) So... I have a fine working alternator if anyone is in need for one...

When do we move past "Part 1 - The Discovery"??
I move for starting Part 2! Careful with the oversized bodywork and flares and large wheels combining that with limited power to back it up. Don't want to be "all show and no go". Cool project.

Since I posted the alternator stuff on this one... all other body updates will be done in the second thread started...
Used Tractor Supply paint... very thick/strong paint... Nothing seems to be straight forward... rear bolts on the new alternator are different... so now I have to go out and get the correct size nuts... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That is it for this thread... I should start bolting the rear qtr panels tonight to then mark and start cutting the metal... ![]()
