NUTS!!!! check this out!

I was checking out the 924/944 tech bb and noticed a posting called "Getaway". Basically it's a video of someone in a 911 driving through the streets of Stockholm, Sweden at insane speeds! Quite thrilling. It's 107MB though so do something like clean the house while it's downloading. It's worth it though, especially for the guys up north with PWS.

I don't know, I don't think I can clean my house in 20 minutes. It's pretty dirty.

Cool. It's like the French movie Rendezvous, made in the 70s, which was shot through the windshield of a Ferrari Daytona as it speeds through Paris. But the French one only had one camera, and (I think) cheated with the sound effects. It was directed by Claude LeLouch, a snooty French art-house guy, so it probably marks a kind of cut-the-crap high water mark for French 'cinema'.

The Swedish one is not quite as thrilling, but more authentic. Stockholm is a fine looking city.

I put a copy on my server (here in SoCal), which may provide quicker downloads from the U.S. (File is ~110MB)

Pretty cool flick!

Any chance someone could downsample it a bit?

For us guys with modems its a bit large. Especaily here in the UK where we pay for our phone calls!

Also I just changed jobs and dont have a T1 link any more. darn it!

Thanks, Alex

Wow, with a modem and even with Download Accelerator, it still took hours. I let it run while I went to bed...well worth it when I woke up. I didn't see a copyright anywhere. So unless somebody says it's illegal, send me a blank CDR and pay return shipping & I'll burn it for you....ceb

Nope, not here: http://www.nosubstitute.org/video/getaway.mpeg

Of course, it has been what 9 years, but I can't find a safe place to link or download the original getaway.mpeg. Years ago, I had to use dial-up to get it, and years ago, didn't have space to keep it. Is it out there still in the P world?

After about 4min into it, the engine was making sounds like it had some problems. Still a pretty decent clip.

The movie is called Getaway in Stockholm.

There are 9 movies featuring cars like: Dodge viper GTS, BMW M3/M5, Escort Cosworth, Honda NSX, Toyota Supra, Corvette C5, Porsche 911, Porsche 911 GT3, Mazda RX7.

The original movie Rendevouz was as Jack wrote a work of director Claude Lelouch in 1976.
But if my memory serves me right it they were driving a Mercedes 450SEL and the sound is from a Ferrari 275GTB.
The drive starts at Porte Dauphine right across Paris to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
According to the myth Claude Lelouch hired a F1 driver, and it has never been confirmed but many believe that it is Jacques Laffite driving.

Hope the links work!

Actually, it's a myth that "Rendezvous" was shot using a Ferrari, and the camera POV was not through the windshield, it was mounted on the bumper. Lelouch in fact used a large Mercedes sedan for the shooting and dubbed in the Ferrari sound and shift points (the MB was an automatic).

Is this a record for the oldest resurrected thread?

Camera was mounted to the front of his Mercedes.
LeLouch was the driver.
Sounds were dubbed in in post production.
Search the forums. This has been discussed and documented several times.
LeLouch gave an interview around 1981, and revealed all this to the public.

You're right, I hadn't realized this thread started in 2000. Jack Olson is one of the first respondents, and he's listed as a "guest." Not even a Pelican yet.
