Trigger door handle disassembly

I picked up some pitted chrome door handles to replace the black ones on my '73 911. I had to disassemble the door handles to get them re-chromed. I have enclosed some step by step photos to show the disassembly--it is a simple process but this might help if your thinking about doing it yourself.
Door Handle: (followed proj 75 in Wayne's 101 book for removal)

Step 4: Remove lock cylinder--critical to have key in cylinder to prevent tumblers from falling out!!!

Step 7:

Finally: Broken down components--there is a pin that holds the trigger assembly together--I didn't dis-assemble it beyond this point but the guys at the chrome shop did.

I'll post some pics once I get the re-chromed handles on the car.
Cheers,
Adrian

thx for the valuable info

I've swapped lock cyls from one car to another but never pulled it all apart.

Did you find any areas that show particular wear?

Randy,
I didn't see any wear -- just a lot of gunk blocking up the spring assembly--I just cleaned and oiled the spring mechanism.

Mission Complete -- new hardware installed

Before:

After:

Handles came out great -- just as good as new-- cost about $160 to rechrome both handles.

I used Metro Plating in Kensington, MD--just outside the Washginton beltway and would highly recommend them. Their website is www.metroplating.com

Joe,
Glad it helped you out -- the door handles look great -- it's amazing what a small change like that can have on the overall appearance of the vehicle.
Thanks,
Adrian

At about step 7, if you attach a small clamp as shown, pulling the rod out 1/4" or so to put it under tension, you won't need so many hands when reassembling.

so like many of you, my trigger broke and i was looking for a solution.

thankfully one of our own pelicans referred me to the trigger only solution.

BUT

like always...... didnt go easily for me.............

My SPRING just broke in half!

WOULD ANYONE HAPPEN TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE SPRINGS LAYING AROUND?

or at least a link to where i can get one?

i'm pretty frustrated at this point....... not the springs fault its 47 years old and just coulnt hold on..... i dont blame it. just tired.... didnt get to bed till 1:30am when the spring broke and just called it a night...... RRRRRRR

ANY help would be really appreciate......................
