How to restore side window trim on early 911?
Has anybody seen a good artice on this? I just had my 71' 911 repainted, and it looks beautiful except for the scratched window moulding. My understanding is that these things are anodized, and can't be sanded and polished like aluminum.
Thanks! Jamie |

Sand it and paint it, or have it powder coated if it's off. Powder coating lasts a long time, is very scratch and fade resistent and looks great. Eastwood, the car restoration co., now has DIY kits for powder coating.

The chrome looking finish on the early 911 trim is called bright dipping then clear anodizing over that. If it looks chrome or polished and is alumunium its bright dipped.
Most major cities should have someone that restores and refinishes bright work, look around, call some anodizing shops and ask them. The black finish is black anodizing on early cars and later powder coat. Randy Jones 1971 911 |

Thanks guys. It just drives me nuts to have such a blemish on a clean car. Unfortunately, the tech article applies only to the front and rear window trim (I learned that the hard way -- and my window trim doesn't look so sharp.) I will look for a metal plating shop in the SF Bayt Area.

Mine is chrome by the way. I've contemplated going to black but decided to stay with the original look.
