Mt. Charleston at 8000 FT. Road twists. Tail slides. Engine roars.

Took my 911T up to Mt. Charleston yesterday. Car didn't miss a beat (2 gallons of 100 octane help).

Amazing that almost 40-year-old technology still delivers.

Cheers,
n.

Nice picture! My wife and I will be out there in May and will probably do a bit of hiking around Mt. Charleston. We won't have the 911 with us :-(

Anybody know what the Mt Charleston Wilderness Area looks like?

Is it loaded with tourists?

I found a low mountain green valley with a decent stream in central Nevada surrounded by routine high desert. I was just wondering if this might be similar?

thx

I've been there in the middle of April and the whole area was deserted. The ski lodge was closed up and nothing had geared up for the summer. We drove that entire loop and saw about 3 other cars.

I'll have to defer to others for other dates. I'll be there at the end of May so we'll get to see what that's like.

----------- perfect. Now i know not to avoid the place. Was the place green or just Vegas area desert?

----- i'm leaving around May 1 to pick up Ashville John w/ '87 911 and then were driving 2 911s around the west solo so not sure when I'll be through Vegas area. I just remember the outskirts looking lousy desert.

If you need a heads up on an area just let me know. I've slept in just about every forest in the country.

It looked just like the picture in this thread except for not as much snow. There's desert on the way there but once you turn off the main highway and start climbing you get into the pines. I think it's all beautiful but I'm one of those people who would kill to live in the desert. But for now I'm stuck in green Missouri. Well it will be green in a few more weeks.

Beatiful car and scenery! BTW, with higher altitude you don't need higher octane - you can use lower octane than normal (thin air lowers the compression)...

Top of the ski area, right? Haven't been there since 1983. Wish I had a real car back then.

Grant,
I like to mix in a couple of gallons of 100 octane every once in a while, regardless of where I drive to. There's a 76 gas station by my house that sells 100 octane right from the pump. It's (only) $5 a gallon, compared to my friends back in the UK who pay $8 a gallon for 98RON... it's still cheap...

Cheers,
n.

---------- that's all i had to hear.. thx

I'm one of those people who would kill to live in the desert.
------ northern Nevada is beautiful high desert. Great wildlife, great fishing, great views, great roads, and probably the only opel mine in the US. You can walk the bed for free or search in a mine for $40. It's close to a free secton with 24/7 hot spring showers.

But for now I'm stuck in green Missouri.
--------- general SW can be real nice in the spring.

btw.. thx all for the hijack.. but a real nice area of the SE was posted and i couldn't help myself.. this concrete jungle is making me nutty.. i gotta escape.. A cross country solo ride in a 911 is the greatest therapy in the world.. i deserve it.

later
