Need a replacement coil

I am looking for a new ignition coil. I have been advised that the Bosch silver coloured coils made in Brazil have a very short lifespan but I can't find a supplier for the black coil Part#0 221 121 001. This is on a 1977 911S. Does anyone have any further information?

You can substitute an MSD High-Vibration epoxy-filled coil. Pelican pn ... MSD-PN8222

Thanks for the help. I will order one of these and hope that it solves my problem. I'm going to replace the ignition wires as well.

Is that MSD unit a direct plug-in replacement for the silver Bosch one?

i can vouch for the crappiness of the brazillian coils. My mechanic's supplier claims 18 returns on 200 sold.

mine lasted a month.

I had 3 Brazillian coils fail in just over a year! Twice involved towing.

Replaced with an MSD, and no issues since.

I just wanted to add more to the Brazilian coil bashing. The only times my 279k 911 have left me stranded was when I went through 2 of the Brazilian coils in 5 days. I did go the MSD coil route and was never quite satisfied, always having some spark issues. I've since replaced the MSD with a used German coil and everything has been great since then.

here is a link to my coil replacement.
Snowed in on MLK day, Here is my Project of the Day...

Its pretty straight forward. I sourced mine off of ebay from someone claiming to be a NASCAR team. I havent had any issues. With shipping, my total investment was 30 dollars.

Good Luck

Remember Me?!

I ran a thread a few weeks ago for being stranded in the cold night with a failed silver Brazilian coil!

So what do I do? I order another and guess what? I install it and the darn car is backfiring, trying to come alive and it turned out it was the BRAND NEW - FAILED - BOSCH SILVER COIL MADE IN BRAZIL!!!!!

So to be a bigger jerk, I returned it to Pelican only to get a new one in the mail a few days ago. I am terrified to install it!!!!!!!!!

I am relying now on my original "black" OEM Bosch coil that could well be over 25+ years old to keep my car going with the silver one as a back up to get me home if the black one fails. Pathetic logic if you ask me!!! I will need to install it to see at least if it works.......

I just found that their are suitable replacements out there, so do some checking around.

The Brazilian Silver is not long for the history books according to Pelican. I understand that the original German tooling for this is just plain worn out and its doubtful Bosch will re-tool to supply a mess of older ignition system cars a newer coil at big expense. Maybe a petition drive is in order...............

Good hunting
