New project.... a clean slate

Clean slate.. blank canvas?

The possibilities are mind boggling.

Just picked up a euro 930 tub from Redi Strip.

Starting tomorrow the cage goes in.. roof is cut off then off to be powder coated.,

nice and clean

into the trailer for the trip home

this is neat.. you can see where the 930 flares were welded on.. huge HAZ though.. must have been a gas torch

Where on earth to you buy a straight euro 930 tub? What's the end goal here?

Would you mind sharing with us Redi Strip's cost/process.

How are you sealing up the shell?

I'm very jealous.

Woah, Haus,

Step back for a few days and work out all the considerations. Without knowing of your skills and resources I recommend a slight pause.

There have been some serious (and valuable) threads on roll cage design. I’m not inclined to accept any one design - yet. There is a lot to this and it is still evolving.

I plan to install new cages in several Porsches over the next few years. I don’t yet have enough knowledge to properly spec them. This thread can help. I’m not in any hurry. You shouldn’t be either.

Best,
Grady

This is one of the cages Ive built from scratch. We are always learning and incorporating new ideas into our cages.

We have a getty design 993 wide body kit ready to install

the car will be powered by a derivative of this engine transmission combo

Tim, wow. You and Bill are going to apply what you've learned over the years. Do you know that Rudtner was my very first DE instructor at Pocono about six years ago? I remember one of his articles about the buildup of his 935: those upright headlights are pushing way too much air. Hence the slippery 993 bodywork.

That said, Dick Fell claimed a FOUR SECOND decrease in lap times at Road Atlanta due to better aerodynamics when he went to 996 bodywork from his old '69 RSR. Same tub, same engine, same chassis, better aero. But it looks like . . . a water pumper. . . .

We would like to make it a really slippery aero car with 996 bodywork, but the customer already supplied the getty 993 wide body.

Its just neat working on something so clean..we now have to beat the clock and get this tub powder coated.

Why is the roof cut off? Looks non-sunroof to me? Or, are you going composite up there?

We cut the roof off for two reasons. One, to make the welding of the top cage structure easier. Second is to decrease the weight of the roof by replacing the steel with either fiberglass or a carbon composite roof, lowering actual roll center.

There is a problem with this type of rebuild.
I walk into my garage and see the poor beast sitting there with no engine and 4 year old paint, and my brain starts thinking about the possibilities!
You realize that your project is causing many of us to have second (or third) thoughts about the state of progress in our own project.
Shame on you....LOL
Raising the bar is not being a good Pelican!
You should at least offer to upgrade the rest of us as well...LOL
Oh well...back to the shop.
Maybe bigger cylinders....Hmmmmm
Great project.
Bob
