Any data for 1983-84 911 SC RS?
I was looking through Bruce Anderson's book on Performance Porsche Handbook thing and ran across a factory modified SC and want to know more about it.
Apparently Porsche built a low production run of a SC RS in early 1984 which used the 3.0 engine and not the new 3.2 engine. HP was rated at 250 and the body was lightened up a bit with an aluminum hood, aluminum doors, and no fog lights. Also it seems the rear fender flares were larger, but the wheels looked to be regular 16" Fuchs. Bruce metioned a different cams and some fuel injection system modification. Does anyone know of a resource to learn more about this car? I think at least these cams could be reproduced and used for higher end power ![]() ![]() Thanks! ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Chapter |

is there a reasonable variation of these modifications that can be done to a 3.0L SC?

What did it use for throttles? High butterflies or slide valves.

Seems like the best performance mod for our SC's is to lose the stock exhaust.

The injection as the same mechanical unit as used on the 73 RS, and 72/73 S models. Yes the best mod for any post 74 engine is the ssi exhaust(1.5" primary tubes) or for larger displacement engines B&B headers(either 1.625" or 1.75" primary tubes). The SC/RS used either 1.5" or 1.625" primary tube headers with no heat(bundle of snakes), heat came from a gas burner in the smugglers box.

WHat were the valve sizes on those 935 heads? What was the diference between the "S" and the"RSR" cam?

Bruce,
S timing: 267 degrees Intake/ 235 degrees Exhaust duration. 230 hp DIN -- RS 3.0 with OEM single outlet muffler! RSR timing: 278 degrees Intake/ 267 degrees Exhaust duration. 316 hp DIN -- IROC Penske cars with open megaphones! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

935 heads came in various flavors, some had 47 mm intake and 40.5 mm exhaust valves with 41/41 mm ports, others 49/41.5 mm valves with 43/43 mm ports. By the way all of the early 3 liter engines had 49/41.5 mm valves with 39/35 mm ports, including the 3 liter and 3.3 liter turbo, this changed in on 81-83 models which went to 34/35mm ports. The RSR cams have 278 deg of intake duration with .464" lift & 267 deg of exhaust duration with .450" lift. The S and RS cam had 267/.459 & 235/.396 respectively. As compared to the SC/Carrera with 229/.455 & 220/.402 or the 964 cam at 240/.464 & 230/.425

Sorry about all the questions but I've lost my hand book and haven't broken down and purchased another one because I know it's around some where. Any way which GE cam comes closest to the RSR spec.

Using the format intake duration/lift/exh duration/lift.
3.0 RSR 278/.464/267/.45 GE-80 274/.500/256/.47 GE-100 284/.520/266/.49 Keep in mind that port size, intended use, vehicle weight and displacement are all crital to the cam you want to use. The RSRs make power because all of the components are matched to each other and the intended use. |
