Frame integrity on old 911s? Rust out problems?

I have a deal brewing for another 911,its a 73 coupe and is infair condition at best. It has a pretty good bit of rust in places like the door jams and such but I am more concerned with the under carige IE the frame structure and any important areas of attention I may need to look at before getting into something I may not want to take all the way to completion. Can anyone offer there insight on this subject before I make a mistake here. I should note that the seller is only asking 2,000 for the car and it does run.

Kenneth,

The '73 models had a pan that was galvanized up to the door sills. That is good for some protection, unless, of course, it has been used in winters with salted roads! As our good friend Jeff in Hawaii (Rufblackbird) has found with his '76, even a 100% galvanized shell is not weatherproof in a salty, humid atmosphere after 25 years!!!

Kenneth,
Speaking from grave experience, you should be very careful before committing to this car. If you are seeing rust in the door jambs, odds are the longitudinals are rotting out while I type. Megabucks to repair correctly. Also remember that whatever rust you see is just the tip of the iceberg.
