Hood release requires key--what years?
My '86 hood release requires me to unlock it each time. I've been in other 911's (? yrs), where the hood release pull can be left in the unlocked position. What gives?

My 87' has a lock but doesn't lock each time. My 82' has no lock. Yours sounds like it has a bad cylinder.

Mike,
You should be able to remove your key from the lock cylinder in the hood release handle, with the lock either locked or unlocked. If you can't remove the key with the lock in the unlocked position, there is something wrong with it. JR |

My '86 is lockable, but as said above, you can remove the key in the unlocked position.

My 85 has a t-handle and lock....doesn't automatically lock with every use, locking is optional via key. Meaning...no need to use the key every time if you don't want to.

Does anyone know how to get the hood lock pull handle (and I guess cable also) removed to replace or re-key the lock?
Thanks, Scott |

Mine has a lock, but only needs to use the key to unlock it (if I've already locked it). Once it is unlocked, I just pull it down to open it. Its a nice feature that I rarely use.
This is an original '78 SC Targa feature that came with my car. -Matt
